What made you decide to run for York Sport President?
This year, as the Hockey Club President I found out first-hand the support and help YUSU give to students when large incidents arise. I have hugely enjoyed representing 100 students in the Hockey Club and the challenges of getting the highest possible performance, as well as creating as atmosphere for all standards of hockey player from the beginner to the best firsts team player. I would very much like to expand this to sport across the University and bring my creative ideas such as weekly results shows to encourage participation as well as optimising performance via an ‘Up and Coming’ programme and subsidising gym membership for focus sport athletes.

Sum up your main policies.
Improve top level performance, raise £5000 for RAG, introduce an ‘Up and Coming’ sports programme and official, make Roses 2016 preparation more professional and introduce an official supporters kit.

Describe yourself in three words.
Calm, approachable, driven.

What makes you different from the other candidates?
I am bringing in ideas that will not only effect the sportsmen and sportswomen, but also the majority of University of York students who sometimes want to go and watch a rugby, football or netball game with [their] housemates. I will endeavour to let all students know when and where to be to do this via videos, posters and an app.

What will you do differently to Cass Brown, the current York Sport President?
I would hold workshops for not only the presidents but also for all the other roles in the committees of all the sports clubs. I would hold weekly video round up of BUCS results so more people know what is going on in other sports clubs. I would have York Sport socials so people get to know other clubs and their members. I plan to work with presidents to find out what they need to optimise performance.

What experience do you have that will be good forthe role?:
I have been President of the Hockey Club for the last year as well as playing university golf. I have played college rugby and lacrosse while also coaching college hockey.

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself.
I have Grade 8 trumpet.

What do you think of the other candidates?
I’m delighted that we have four people running for York Sport President and I think no matter who gets the role, York Sport will be in great hands next year.

What do you think the biggest challenge you’ll face during elections will be?
Taking down all of the cardboard at the end… especially if I don’t get elected!

What’s campaign strategy?
I don’t want to give too much away but I might get a few odd looks while walking around campus so look out for the short guy!
