Why did everyone stop dancing?

In July 2007, just before the sub-prime crisis began to kick hard, one top banker dismissed fears that the days of record bank profits were coming to an end with an infamous response: “we’re still dancing”. The banker was Chuck Prince, the con artist formerly known as CEO of Citigroup. Last month, Citigroup posted an annual loss for 2008 of $18.72 billion. Whether Mr Prince now spends more or less time at the country club than when he was head of one of the world’s largest financial institutions is anybody’s guess
