If you're dreaming of summer with the brief spell of warm weather we've had, or want to pretend for just a moment that you are in the Spanish sun, Ambiente is the place to be. With three locations dotted around York, the tapas restaurant offers a variety of great dishes including many vegetarian and vegan options.
They are located on Goodramgate, Fossgate and their third restaurant, Tabanco by Ambiente is on Walmgate. I visited the Fossgate location and it is beautiful inside, with the food being presented very well and staff very attentive. My favourite dishes were Queso Feta al Horno (baked chilli and honey feta with sun-dried tomatoes, rocket and hazelnut salad) and their classic Patatas Bravas were incredible, with the aioli and spicy tomato sauce being stand-outs.
Most tapas prices are between £6-8, but they also offer fresh paella for two and sharing platters and fiesta menus if you’re attending with a larger group. The wine menu is extensive (they also, of course, have sangria) and until the end of August, they are also serving brunch at Tabanco on weekends. I would highly recommend Ambiente if you’re looking to treat yourself, or perhaps if you’re celebrating a special occasion!
