@yorknouse Had many a good times and bad at the Charles, just by Langwith. Great memories, awesome curry.

The 'old man' feel seems to be a favourite element of the Yorkshire pub, even for students. Top choices here: the Wellington Arms and the Rook and Gaskill. And while you're pondering life over a pint at the latter you can think that supposedly two men were executed on the ground on which the pub lies. Creepy...@yorknouse The Charles. Because it's 5 seconds away from my halls and you can get a questionable pub meal for PS2.50. Don't get the lasagne.

@yorknouse Wellington Arms in Fulford. Cheap, with an old man atmosphere in the best possible way. (Also good ales. Apparently.)
— Rose Troup Buchanan (@rose_catb) March 27, 2013
Top choice for sport is the Rose & Crown - a good selection if the atmosphere in there for this year's Six Nations was anything to go by:@yorknouse Rook&Gaskill. Old mannish and not too studenty. Amazing beers. Name has the creepiest origin of any pub in York.
— Tim Wingard (@TimWingard) March 27, 2013
But there's still loyalty for our own campus bars, even if the tweeter is a wee bit biased (at least he admits it):@yorknouse Rose & Crown on Lawrence St. Great for casual pint or full on weekend sporting marathons. Cheapish, decent food & nice service

There wasn't much love for York's bars, but there was one notable recurring favourite:@yorknouse Courtyard! Warm staff, reasonable prices, excellent burgers and fun atmosphere. And I'm only slightly biased.

And the Lowther, is it a pub or bar? Well whatever you think, it's drawn this heartfelt lament for the flood-ridden night spot:@yorknouse Dusk. When there are such masculine cocktails as a Graham Norton and Maid Marion on offer, what is possibly to dislike?
— Sam Shepherd (@Sam_Shepherd1) March 27, 2013
I'd have to stand by this choice, good smoking area and even better upstairs for those big society events:@yorknouse The Lowther - no matter how often you flood - I hear the Ouse feels like a thousand daggers - I will go down with my ship.
— Fiona Parker (@Fi_Pee) March 27, 2013
A cheap pint still takes the top prize for students, with most reviews pointing out beer prices. Make sure you remember to claim that post-Budget penny off...@yorknouse Stonegate yard. bogs covered in saucy pinup cards and a fairy-light-lit smoking area to keep chimney-esque housemates at bay
— Miranda Larbi (@MirandaLarbi) March 27, 2013
The King's Arms reminds me why I chose a university in the North. #CHEAP. Riverside view not bad either #PRETTY @yorknouse
— Rohan Banerjee (@RBanerjee23) March 27, 2013
The Hansom Cab. The first pub I ever visited in York. Samuel Smiths, chairs fit for Morpheus and 6 pints of bitter for a tenner. @yorknouse
— Danny Ord (@DannyOrd) March 27, 2013
And finally the prime choice of your humble reporter - low ceilings, city walls and glorious ales make this a favourite for Summer... if it ever arrives...@yorknouse Keystones, because all I want in life is a PS1.50 pint of strongbow and a pool table. (it's just a shame York St John like it too)
— Rosie Shields (@r_sieshields) March 27, 2013
.@yorknouse Lamb and Lion. Yorkshire ales, crunchy chips and summer lunches under tolling Minster bells
