The Red Hot Chili Peppers lived up to their name and legendary reputation on Friday as they fired up their blink-and-you’ll miss-it British summer tour. Rousing the crowd were the, ummmm, colourful ‘Chicks on Speed’ and the Godfather of Soul himself, James Brown (I kid you not!). The Chilis blew us away with such masterpieces as Californication, Can’t Stop, By the Way, Give it Away, and Under the Bridge- giving us chances to wave lighters, jump around stupidly and nod appreciatively for the raw talent (not all at the same time though…or maybe that explains why I ache!). But we were also treated to an unrecognisable new track, a few of their favourites from their youth and no gig goes down well without some trumpet playing, solo drum slots and fireworks! If you couldn’t get tickets and were revising rather than listening to Radio One’s coverage of Hyde Park on Sunday, don’t worry- you’ll soon be able to buy the live album. All I can say is- bring on Summer Tour 2005!
