You gotta fight (for your right to make music)
By Robin Seaton — May 4, 2006
You have to admire Charlie Simpson’s optimism, and his bravery. There’s something almost American about his desire for reinvention, something suicidal about his courage in forming a metal/punk band after having left Busted, a group who were one of the most successful manifestations of the legalised child exploitation racket that is pop music.

The Fratellis – Creepin’ Up The Backstairs
It’s got the same infectious quality of the early Libertines songs like ‘What A Waster’, but without the poetry: it’s a bit rough around the edges, but the production matches the feel of the song exactly. It may be just dumb rock ‘n’ roll, but sometimes that’s exactly what you need.
Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins, Rabbit Fur Coat
By Robin Seaton — February 20, 2006
The first solo LP from Rilo Kiley’s Jenny Lewis accompanied by vocal duo the Watson Twins, this is a strong attempt at an indie-country album that falls fractionally short of its initial promise. Brilliant a cappella opener, Run Devil Run, sets up the gospel overtones beautifully. The strong presence of Biblical themes that is common to the best country music is certainly present here; there are ‘devils’ and ‘mercies’ a-plenty, but sometimes they don’t seem entirely real.
