DROP has once again rejuvenated and enthused the grime sector of York by hosting new wave rap artists 67 who provided a fresh new take on the music genre that has swept the UK off the back of ‘noughties’ garage. DROP has hosted a number of up and coming new tier hip-hop and grime artists since its beginning in February 2015 including AJ Tracey, Ms Dynamite and THE ARTFUL DODGER.
67 provided the eccentricity and enthusiasm in their music throughout their set, and provided the perfect start to the weekend. The collaboration of rappers that makes up 67, in a similar way to BBK, have made tracks in the still developing genre and have been well received with a number of their songs having millions of streams of Spotify, demonstrating their ability to connect with the hardcore grime followers. Collaboration further extends beyond the group as they have also collaborated with infamous adolescent mura masa in All Around the World, facilitating an alternative stream to sometimes similar grime beats.
The nights success has to be placed however with its founder and York alumni Arian Sarrafan whose dedication to providing a platform for both well known and up and coming artists is the main reason for the expansion and differentiation of nights out in York. The diversification of nights out in York is much needed and has prompted other York students to set up similar alternative nights, which is only positive and further highlights the expansive influence that DROP has had on the York party scene.
We at Nouse therefore hope DROP keeps true to its word by throwing parties, so the eagerness for a ‘murky’ night out is quenched.
Next event for DROP is Kahn and Neek on the 9th of February.
