Home side Lancaster won a solid victory in this year’s Roses early on Sunday afternoon, with Women’s Canoe Slalom clinching them the all-important 176 points.
The winning mark was lowered from 179 after a number of fixtures, including key cricket matches, were rained off. In the history of Roses, York now lead by 26 tournaments to 25.
Despite strong showings in many sports, notably Women’s Rugby and Football on Friday, Squash and Men’s Hockey on the Saturday, and Dancing and Frisbee on the Sunday, Lancaster’s momentum that they built on the second day carried them through to victory.
Wins in Football, Table Tennis and Pool were instrumental in swinging things Lancaster’s way during Saturday, and giving them a sizeable lead to work with going into Sunday.
