University catering outlets are opening their doors at 5pm instead of 5.30pm during exam week, to allow students to eat at a “leisurely pace” before evening exams.

In a blog post on the YUSU website, the University has confirmed that the catering in Wentworth, Vanbrugh, James and Derwent Colleges will be open for the additional half-hour. As many exams are scheduled for 6pm during the first week of term, this will allow catered students time to eat their meals without feeling hurried.

Last exam season, campus catering also opened earlier, and was viewed as a popular move. This year’s agreement came after lobbying by Kallum Taylor, YUSU President, and Thomas Ron, YUSU Disabled Students’ Officer, who described the change as a “big victory for students”.
