The four teams likely to be in the shake up for the College Cup have been kept apart by a draw that sets the stage for a dramatic competition. Halifax, Derwent, Goodricke and Vanbrugh were all drawn in separate groups by College Sport officer Mark Lund and will not play each other until the knock out stages.

Whilst the challange of James, Wentworth, Alcuin and Langwith will be stern there is no denying that the favourites are thought to be amongst the former four teams, with Halifax being isolated by some as the team to avoid.

The Fax have been drawn alongside Phil Bowers’ Alcuin, who will hope their record in the Cup will give them a mental headstart. James and Vanbrugh have also been paired up, and will face Halifax’s dangerous seconds team, in what could be the “The Group of Death”. Derwent will face the Wentworth side they beat to secure the title on the final day of the season last term and Langwith will have to contend with Sam Lewis’ Goodricke.

Elsewhere Derwent fourths will play Vanbrugh fourths ,after a late withdrawal by the Medics team, for the right to complete the line up in group one. This could see Phil Taylor’s team up against their college team mates in what was an unavoidable quirk of the draw.

Each of the contenders will be hoping to get through the group unscathed and, if the favourites prove their credentials, we are unlikley to see a repeat of the situation from last year where Derwent and Alcuin played in each other in the group stages only to meet again in the final.

The comment above comes from an imposter Mole (a James goalkeeper who is now looking like being dropped)

  8. If I don’t finish as top scorer for the tournament (as well as the highest scorer in Fantasy Football) then I’ll have had a really poor tournament. I don’t think anyone can really match my ability when it comes to getting in behind the other men (on the pitch)

  9. If you could try and use your own names when posting that would be really appreciated. In the meantime, on College Cup articles, do remember to take other posters’ names with a pinch of salt. Cheers.

I can’t wait to take this tournament by storm. My pace and trickery will be difficult for most teams to handle, and my sideways 3 yard pass is akin to that of John Obi Mikel. Consider yourselves warned everyone, the Sharp-shooter is on the loose.

  13. Yes, there will be a Fantasy Football league. We’ve nearly received all the information from the captains and we will be launching it later this week.
