In the run up to the Oscars it is often easy to forget about those important film festivals across the channel, in France. The French Film Awards (The Cesar Awards) saw Roman Polanski pick up the award for best director, for his feature The Ghost Writer, whilst Quentin Tarantino received an honorary award for being a ‘great international artist’. The award was presented to him by Diane Kruger and Christopher Waltz who both acted in Inglourious Basterds

Xavier Beauvois’ Of Gods and Men, inspired by the murder of monks in Algeria in 1966, was set to be the star of the ceremony, having been nominated for a total of 11 awards. However, it only came away with a total of three, including best picture, best supporting actor, and another award for its cinematography.

David Fincher’s The Social Network walked away with the award for best foreign film, best actor went to Eric Elmosnino for his role in the Serge Gainsbourg biopic, and Sara Forestier picked up best actress for The Names of Love.
