The Halifax College Ball set the backdrop for eagerly anticipated results of the new HCSA this year, with one of the most hotly contested college presidential elections in Halifax’s history. Finally, the coveted position went to Daveds Mootanah, whose exciting events policy and enthusiasm seemed to have struck a chord with the voters.
After his win, Daveds revealed that in the upcoming year he wants to make sure that Halifax college spirit is “unrivalled” amongst other colleges. He plans to keep on with events like ‘Fax Off to Amsterdam,’ but wanted his other event plans to remain a surprise to make sure they were unique to Halifax.
Another successful candidate was Ayaz Hussain, who won the tough contest to be Vice President for Welfare. He hopes to bring “a different perspective” to the position thanks to the links that he has with YUSU already.
Lydia Blundell, retiring president, shared her hopes for her successor, saying: “he’s got such a good spark about him.” She believes that with the new structure of the committee, those elected would “carry on all the good work.”
