  1. Ben, I think you need to familiarise yourself with the National Union of Journalists Code of Conduct. The YUSU Media Charter states that all student journalists must adhere to the rules of the NUJ. Let me give you a couple of examples:

    Point 2: “(Journalists must) strives to ensure that information disseminated is honestly conveyed.”

    Point 12: “(Journalists must) avoid plagiarism.”

    Producing an article which intentionally misleads students into thinking that the YUSU President would make comments like that about “Yumgate” and the “Langwith bar quiz megafail” breaches Point 2, as the information has not been honestly conveyed.

    And by using Tim Ngwena’s genuine Twitter name (Yusuprez), you are in contravention of Point 12, as you have falsely attributed your own comments to Tim without making it explicitly clear in the article that the comments are not his own. It does not matter that it is in the satire section; the rules still apply.
