York Apprentice 2010 launched
The York Entrepreneurs Society has announced the launch of The York Apprentice for the fourth consecutive year.
The event will begin on the June 7 and will run throughout Week Seven, leading up to the finale on the June 11. The competition is open to all students enrolled at the University of York and entering in groups of four.
Admissions open on the May 10 and close on the May 31. The final competition will be made up of 16 groups of 64 students. The 2009 Apprentice was over-subscribed, with nearly double amounts of applicants for places available.
The competition is not solely aimed at developing students’ business skills but also at raising large amounts of money for charity. Last year’s Apprentice saw £3,300 raised for the charity Newlife through the reselling of jewelry donated by the charity itself.
Other challenges faced by the students in 2009 included the YSTV drinking challenge, the ‘services’ challenge, where contestants had to raise money through summer campus events, and the two-part ‘Bar Event’.
The winning team in 2009 was mBezel and included current YUSU President, Tim Ngwena. mBezel was awarded a £1000 prize whilst this year’s wining team can expect a cash prize of £1200.
The 2010 Apprentice promises even more than last year. Matthew Freckelton, Press and Publicity Director for York Entrepreneurs stated: “This year’s Apprentice will see the best bits from last year’s event comprised with some new and exciting ideas.”
The launch party will be held on the June 7 and another significant guest speaker has been confirmed.
Freckleton continued: “We are particularly excited with the special guest speaker we have lined up for the launch event, who has been a staple for all the Apprentice’s shown on the BBC.”

“snip snip”…
hopefully this year it won’t feature teams winning by doing things like encouraging their rich friends to buy donuts at £5 a piece as seems to have happened in the last few years. maybe this time it’ll actually be about entrepreneurial skills? doubt it though, it’ll probably end up being a popularity contest again.
I was thinking of doing this. Maybe not if Dubious is right. I don’t have any rich friends
