20.25

t-7 minutes and counting until the first Prime Ministerial Debate. The debates will be key in the electoral campaign with pundits saying that Cameron has the most to lose, Clegg clearly the biggest winner being given top-billing with Cameron and Brown creates a huge oppertunity for a man most voters no very little about.
As for the debates they may be brilliant or very boring we will just have to wait and see if the leaders bring the adversarial style we have grown so accustomed to at PMQs

19.50

Hi everyone welcome to the Nouse Politics team’s very exciting live blog of the Prime Minister’s debate. Commencing at 8.30pm we will be bringing you lots of analysis on the live debate and the odd satirical comment! So come back for the what will clearly be the best live blog of the night.

Just before a debate that will surely involve lots of talk of debt cuts and SCS put on an advert for getting a mini-loan on buying a sofa… couldn’t make it up.

  2. ~J says:

Oh my goodness we’re watching a game show. ITV is shocking.

  3. ~J says:

Also doesn’t Cameron sound like Hugh Dennis?

  4. torry boy says:

    go cameron!

  5. ~J says:

Policing all of the shores, Cameron? And where does the money come from?

  6. Matthew Freckelton says:

wondering how oftern ~j is flicking between the nouse and vision websites on this debate.

  7. ~J says:

    Pretty quickly…

  8. Tom Flynn says:

Why are the audience all so old?!?

  9. ~J says:

Official rules, Tom, state “recruit according to gender, age, ethnicity and social class to best reflect the broader voting-age population” so complain to OfCom!

  10. Matthew Freckelton says:

good point tom, i thought the same too! maybe a true representation of the UK, is that it’s all old people..lol

  11. Chrissy B says:

Nice liveblog guys, but if anyone fancies some satire check out:

    thelemonpress.co.uk/?p=1262

  12. GC says:

Gordon Brown always looks vaguely terminal..

  13. Matthew Freckelton says:

william pit managed a balanced book (i think)… why can’t we Gordon???

  14. Matthew Freckelton says:

Gordon Brown is standing on the left because of his eye. the other two are going to swap places. according to the times.

  15. Matthew Freckelton says:

40 mins in, whose sweating the most?

  16. Webster says:

This is so cool! I love that Nouse is finally taking British politics seriously!

  17. Ali Clark says:

Link for the live stream if you want it: http://www.itv.com/electiondebate

  18. ~J says:

Not that seriously, Webster – spelling and grammar errors all over the place :P And only one person blogging? For shame, Nouse!

  19. Barnaby says:

I like the format so far. Brown attacks Cameron. Cameron attacks Brown. Clegg goes for Cameron. Brown smiles

  20. Ali Clark says:

~J it was decided safer to have one blogger since they aren’t at the same location and would be writing over each other. Also spelling errors are added intentionally to give a sense of urgency.

  21. Barnaby says:

Jojo Weiners made another appearance I see

  22. Tony Richards says:

Cameron is tottaly unable to answe questions on Tory cuts…
Still hoping to grin and bare it till the elections over and then
follow the plans of your wealthy backers are we? So
glad this debate is showing him for the slimey prik
    he is!

  23. Troy says:

On a side note, at least Cameron can grin. Brown’s smile is just unnerving. The way he looks at Clegg…

  24. ~J says:

    Troy=Tory… I can anagram!

“ITV poll: Who do you think is winning so far?
    Clegg 52%
    Brown 30%
    Cameron 18%”

Fairly accurate. Cameron is spouting bullshit and failing to account for the holes. Brown is being fairly representative of himself, both good and bad. Clegg is making sense and highlighting good points – but won’t win anyway :P

  25. anonymous says:

“ooh Northern Ireland will be getting its own debate ill be tuning in to it…..NOT”

A rather harsh and unnecessary comment.

  26. Tony Richards says:

    The CAMERON CRASH!

  27. Tony Richards says:

Tonight we saw the Cameron Crash whilst; for the first time in years Gordon was Golden

  28. Troy says:

I think Cameron actually came across well regarding the NHS. Really genuine.

  29. Barnaby says:

Hardly. He was slimy and patronising. And as if his children will go to state schools. Well, maybe until they are 6

  30. ~J says:

I concur with the anon: the regional debates will be interesting and even if we don’t tune in (because ultimately it won’t affect our decision; it’s a fair viewpoint) we should agree with the principle!

Clegg won hands-down but won’t affect too many people. “Tory” (I’m sticking with the anagram) is dead wrong. Cameron came across as an upper class gimp. Wounded.

  31. Ali Clark says:

  33. ES says:

Great blogging Kate! Thanks esp. for the definition of Quango.

  34. m says:

  35. Stelhan Ariyadasa-Sáez says:

With a campaign shot like that, he can’t lose.

  36. Gavin says:

Majors Conservative government introduced the winter fuel allowance, Brown just renamed and added to it. Deception by Labour. Disgusted by Brown assisting the lies on the leaflets

  37. Gavin says:

Browns rigged electoral boundarys and system will still put Labour in power last election they got less votes in England but over 60% of all the MPs seats,

Brown was deceiving and reckless with a massive hole in the govt finances. Hearing lots of deliberate traps and holes put in by Labour for the next government.

Browns plan is a farce because he has put is Labour party MP jobs before the countrys best interest

  38. Gavin says:

Labour has left a devil of a problem yet want to avoid the blame.

Labour have over taxed everyone raising tax by over 5% of GDP and saved nothing in the false boom – note every troubled bank was in a Labour voters heartland – buying votes used to be called gerrymandering.

Brown Labour had the first run on a bank in 300 years – thats why he could act before the other world leader because he messed up the countrys finances. Brown cut maintenance and repairs for the army to fix his manipulated numbers

  39. Gavin says:

Like Clegg education reform is needed backing teachers which have been undermined by Labours power stripping.

Brown has only ONLY got less in unemplyment because he has stuffed 1 million jobs into central government. Browns and Tonys Cronys

  40. Gavin says:

1 mil out of 25 mil employed is 4%. Labour deceipt!!

    Labour governments continue to

Northern rock was not a small bank it did 20% of all UK mortgages. Liar

  41. Gavin says:

Sense from Clegg on Banks as RBS and all the other banks are excaping scott free despite taxpayers owning huge chunks of RBS 84%. Labour done little

  42. Gavin says:

Brown and Blair put more to University on mickey mouse degrees instead of having more practical skills eg Plumbing. Less unemployment because they put more into university!

  43. Gavin says:

Immigration as Clegg says is right appalling situation created by Labours 13 years. Needs fairness as he said.

Foreign ID cards count in and count out too late. So we pay £70 for their id card. Too late Brown you have put in all the amnestys and changing the rules put out from the EU.

Agree with David over not doing amnesty. Need real change

  44. Gavin says:

Wait for Brown to do the race card on the others. Point scoring Ho ho he just did it

  45. Gavin says:

Coming down – ho ho another statistical fudge.

Clegg right on Brown avoiding q and deporting issue

  46. Gavin says:

Why doesnt Labour -J give his name! Yet more government taxpayer paid for spin merchant

  47. Gavin says:

    Practical solution to immigration

Net inward migration is falling becauise we are in a recession all the polish have gone home. – was misplaced lies Brown Labour

  48. Gavin says:

1 Million the Polish elections came to the UK because there were over 1 – 2 million poles and their related families here

  49. Gavin says:

Prime minister responsibility but not held to account – landslide Labour MPs majority.

recovery at risk started here with Browns mismanagement, Brown you are a PROVEN RISK to the economy.

The Labour long term plan is desperate and fiction .

Voting Conservative would be fresh but its a massive challenge to balance the cost of war and recession, fearful of the mess after the election.
Need a clean break of Brown

Clegg true we need to and can act differently, lets hope we can get the change.
Standing up for the values of our country – they have been airbrushed out.

We need it to be different as he said
