There was an unlikely hero in James’ 4-2 victory over Langwith earlier today. Sam Clitheroe, usually a Goalkeeper but today playing outfield, bagged himself a hat-trick in what must go down as one of his greatest days down on the football pitch. A penalty from Simon Mole made it 4-0 to James before a brace from Bruce Starkey cut the deficit to 4-2. There was a lively atmosphere at the game and it seemed to spur James on as, at the final whistle, the score remained 4-2 – certainly a day Clitheroe will remember.
In the day’s other game, Goodricke overcame Vanbrugh 2-0. One goal from Chris Grayland and another from skipper Dave Coupland did the business for Coupland’s team. With Halifax losing to Derwent it turned out to be an important day for the other teams chasing the title, with Alcuin also looking to capitalise following their 4-1 win over Wentworth.
