Hustings Live – Tuesday
YSTV footage of the candidates.
22.54
Peter WM and Tom Hobohm having a bit of cheeky post-hustings flirtation. Take it home, boys.
22.52
Check back tomorrow for the rest of the candidates’ hustings and the debate on Thursday. Good night everyone!
22.51
Tim would be in Gryffindor.
Big fan of Dave’s courage for doing what he did.
NOUUUUUUUUUUUSEEEEEEE. Good boy.
Wants affiliation with NUS.
22.51
Hustings over everyone!
22.50
Roberto would join Harry Potter Soc. and wants to be in Gryffindor because he fancies Hermione. Even though she is very young. Apparently she’s a “natural beauty”.
22.50
Charlie Leyland resorted to throwing things at Hutchings. Hmmmmm
22.49
Think Hutchings is trying to win votes by telling NUS officer just how lovely she is….
22.48
Clever response from Hutchings… if he is a muggle then how can he have a house?
Camilla Apcar provided a very astute answer but it has caused a bit of controversy… he is Ravenclaw, inevitably.
Thinks Levene’s got it.
As the man who is one of the pies of Foy’s many fingers, he has to say Nouse.
But the Vision boys were lovely.
22.46
Freckleton would like to be in Gryffindor, just like Harry Ron and Hermione. If he had to vote for someone else it would be Tim. He prefers Nouse to Vision.
22.45
Levene will be joining HP society.
Henry Foy has his fingers in lots of places. Hum.
He likes us though. We is powerful. We have fingers…
22.42
Last round of questions now….
22.42
Levene Levene Levene… getting a bit political mentioning Mandelson now aren’t we?
22.41
Levene hello.
University have to respect that posters are part of student engagement. Dosn’t think their methods are beneficial. Little bit of common sense goes a long way. Levene… looks at the YUSU website late at night do we? Eager or creepy?
22.40
Tim thinks we should give candidates the challenge for one year not to use any paper. He thinks the University staff are extremely good at recycling. I think he denounces Satan but I didn’t really hear….
22.39
Dave has left the room. Now we will weep Roberto.
Charlotte Hog asks, “can we get him back?”
22.38
Roberto thinks that candidate postering needs better communication between students and departments. He thinks YUSU staff should cycle to work. And got told off for mentioning staff. He thinks students don’t know how much and how well colleges are doing their recyling. He thinks we need to look further then getting students involved in recycling. He thinks greed is good.
22.36
Ollie has sinned…
22.36
Not adverse to Satan hurrrahhh. Or shiny horses. Kinky.
22.36
Ollie thinks that posters are being taking down because there are no clear rules of where they can and can’t be put up. He thinks that putting up hundreds of posters makes the message get lost, and that we should have a few posters in good places. He would like to have more recycling bins on campus and thinks that solar powered lights are a good idea instead of energy saving light bulbs. Also he wants water coolers so there is less waste of plastic bottles.
22.33
Freckleton thinks the posters should stay up and wants to improve campus lighting.
Do you denounce Satan and all his work?
Yes he does, and all his “evil little acts.”
22.32
What are your views on the University taking down candidates posters?
What do you think of YUSU’s pledge to remove carbon emissions by 10% in 2010?
22.30
Freckleton now. He thinks media is a very important issue. He wants to create an independent third party to check the papers… hmmm (think we already have one of those Matty boy…)
22.29
Levene also doesn’t have experience of media law, but feels like there is room for compromise and there is room for negotiation. He thinks Tim is a “communications guru” but that he would be a “campaigner in chief” and would be a very different kind of President. He would like to do more events with societies and utilise YUSU’s existing links.
22.28
Tim is experienced with the papers and has employed a media lawyer… what would he do differently? Wants to “hit the ground running”. He doesn’t need to have the adaptable time to learn to be President. ‘We are Golden’ campaign taught him that the Union can use alumni and use them for guidance.
22.26
Dave Hansen says he was the chief founder of the York City Herald. He thinks Tim “looks alright”. With regards to careers he is offended by the extremely personal and highly intrusive nature of that question. She’s doing the head thing again…
22.25
Roberto up now. He says he can apply his simple common sense approach to the newspapers – does it harm welfare/is it libellous? He says he will be the candidate that brings portering back, he’ll be accessible and he’ll get a cash point. He wants to change how the careers centre is. He thinks that students don’t feel that the careers service is interested in them.
22.23
Hello URY
22.22
NEWS NEWS NEWS….
Ollie: Talk more to the people who are writing the newspapers. Curtail miscommunication. Admits that he does not have much experience with media law… but part of the job to be trained.
No fascist against the media. Hurrah!
Wants to be a more VISIBLE President. In those pants, you will be, Ollie.
22.20
What experience have they had with media law?
What would you do differently to the current president/yourself?
Hutchings takes to the stand….
22.20
Hutchings. Creative campaigning! More student activities spaces.
*Please give a hug to everyone on campus Ollie, I’m sure people would love that (especially in those jeans)!*
Wants to take a more personal touch. Wants to get students to be “more involved” with them.
Let’s get the porters in the pool!
In all seriousness… stresses porters.
Take Me Out and YCD absolute failures according to Hutchings… but his heart lies with them.
(BUT YOU ALL SAW HIM TAKE HIS PANTS OFF ON THEIR NASTA VIDEO RIGHT?)
22.17
Freckleton wants to communicate with students in a way that’s convenient for them. He wants people to be able to comment on the YUSU website and really popular topics get automatically put to UGMs. He wants to do webcast UGMs and thinks the YUSU news letter is “quite rubbish”. He states that the pool is coming and is going to cost £10m, and at the moment porters would be a priority. He says he was a big YSTV fan and still is but he loves the URY app.
22.16
Levene, doesn’t want to sound like a broken record… wants to get student democracy juices pumping. Thinks YUSU should use The Courtyard and Facebook better.
Likes YSTV because he is scared of Anna. Feminism is rife tonight.
22.13
Tim doesn’t think the union has assessed how well they communicate with specific groups. He states that both the porters and the pool are achievable. He prefers URY.
22.12
YSTV are a highly trained group of killers. Well. I know they are experts in a lot of scary techie things, but they’re actually nice people Dave, pop by the station some time.
22.12
Dave Hansen up now.
He wants to release our “magnetic potential”. He wants to maximise customised relationships. He thinks that porters are more important than pool, safety first. He had a show on YSTV last year which he said was a complete disaster.
22.10
Pool or Hes East?
Powell: FREE PIZZA! Never a bad policy. He wants to be a dalek. Cool. Priorities pool.
YSTV or URY? URY
22.09
Roberto up now. He would also introduce candidate handbooks like the other candidates and says he would be strong enough and make sure elections are properly organised, taking charge if staff were ill. He wants to train each JCRC so that they learn how to do their job properly. His notable achievements don’t include skin tight jeans but he feels that being college Chair for Halifax and the freshers’ week he created was highly successful.
22.08
A sexy “wooo” concerning NUS officer’s offer of “advice”.
22.07
Hutchings. Tried reading his speech upside down and is glad that they have moved on from that now.
Need to make it easier for people to get involved in elections. Peoplex now don’t know where the posters are going, electioneering becomes a real hassle.
Colleges… YUSU need to do more to strengthen college integration and spirit. Mentions Jsne Grenville. Numerous times. Onto a winner there?
Notable achievements? He managed to fit into THOSE jeans even due to current ailment. Certainly an achievement Ollie, especially after being treating to a bloody explanation of it today. Yum.
22.04
Freckleton now. He thinks elections need to be improved and start getting fundamentals right. Apparently, the YUSU website said tonights hustings were in the Courtyard, which they are not. He wants to start doing more videos like 60 second manifestos YSTV are doing. He wants to empower people to get the best results. He recieved the best enterprise society award in Edinburgh out of 30 other uni’s including Oxbridge etc. He is representing the award and giving a short speech on what this has done for York in Cardiff shortly.
22.01
Levene again. Serious tone. Wants all candidate’s manifestos in one booklet. All the candidates making sure publicity is where it should be. Supports centralised college staff. Emphasises Hope not Hate campaign despite BNP win.
21.59
Tim up again now, says he wants to get lots of students to come to events like Hustings. He states his most notable achievement is sending Brian Cantor an email with “kp it cl” at the end. Cheeky.
21.58
David Hansen back to the stand now. He says he would not allow joke candidates, and that they are a serious problem. He wants to establish a transparent paradigm matrix. What is his most notable achievement to date? He says he is captain of every first team. Lots of clapping.
21.58
Roberto doesn’t seem too impressed by this Hansen bloke.
21.56
Standing ovation from David Levene. Well. Don’t get too complacent David. May I remind you of Pirate Scott?
21.56
David Hansen up now…
Who has just addressed the room has “subhuman scum”, stating he is the Dave “from your nightmares”. He claims to have been brought up by a wild pack of wolves in the Irish rainforest. He states that he has copious amount of past experience. And pauses for a very long time. He says he used to live with one of the current Women’s officers. He makes some jibe at YSTV which makes Anna Bucks very angry. He claims to have met Weird Al Yankovich. I don’t believe him…
21.54
Powell up.
“Good evening.” Good evening Roberto. Emphasises college spirit. Discussing all his previous history… Students should feel empowered by the President. He is the candidate who can bring that change. We can make better use of YUSU. Promises to make the website simpler and attend JCRC meetings. “Let me fight to keep the college bars open!”
He promises to implement the cash machine on Hes East.
Wants to respond to our problems and issues.
NUS officer likes to stress TIME TIME TIME.
21.51
Ollie Hutchings up next. He says this isn’t a beauty contest or a fashion parade and he has the ability to do well in that contest! He believes the other candidates postering is not very green and would like to change things to make them more environmentally friendly. He wants detailed plans not simple scams. He believes his love and dedication to the campus will give him continued enthusiasm. He has also been cut off by NUS officer who wouldn’t let him finish even though he did ask…
21.49
Ollie the only one in red pants. Fancy.
21.48
He will overhaul the media charter? O really? How so, Matthew?
21.48
Freckleton states that student politics is misunderstood and the true meaning is lost. He says he will never stop fighting for students and will get the job done. He states he has shown his talents in enterprise and initiative. He has raised money for disabled children in Yorkshire. He believes that he is from an outside perspective and can view the bigger picture. He will lobby the University to get a swimming pool built
21.46
David’s speech was interrupted by people coming in then, bit unfair…
21.45
David Levene takes the stand.
“It’s time for action.”
Hes East is plagued by problems. “It’s time for strength.”
YUSU is GOOD at engaging with the University.
“It’s time for Levene.”
The Big Three from Big Hair. Catchy.
21.45
Levene states he has “epic hair”….
21.44
Tim up first:
Tim says he is the first president in 8 years to involve and consult students and can do it again this year. He wants to represent not just undergraduates but all students from all walks of life. He says it’s easy to identify what the Union could do better, but it’s impossible to make changes that will have a positive impact on students without experience. He states his policies have clear aims.
21.42
Tim in pink. Saucy.
21.42
ooooh ok about to start Presidential Candidates now…who does everyone want to win then?
21.41
Ben Humphrys says he “really enjoyed having the opportunity to get what I wanted to say out there.”
He continued: “I don’t think Jason Rose’s speech lived up to his policies, experience or campaigns…”
Rose has now gone home to watch TV and have a nap. Ahh.
21.40
Powell has approached asking: “Why is there such a lengthy Presidential hustings when there is a Presidential debate on Thursday?”
21.40
Tim Ngwena says he is “feeling good, feeling cool.” Ice.
21.38
Levene says he’s “looking forward to it. I love public speaking. I really bloody love public speaking.” And we love public listening Dave. Good luck to all candidates.
21.36
Everyone’s taking a break now. It’s the big one next – the Presidential hustings is in a few minutes time. Everyone seems nervous but confident. A lot of anticipation in the air!
21.34
Charlie Rowley: “I honestly thought Peter might have lost it, but he is down to earth, knows what he is talking about and for me there is only one clear winner.”
21.32
Peter says with earnest, Sugababes: “Who ARE you? Why are you on my television, put some clothes on.”
Just for you, Peter:
love Laura and Charlotte
21.27
Peter wants to be a guinea pig. Cute.
21.25
Peter’s reaction is EXCLUSIVE TO NOUSE. You read it here first.
21.24
Laura wants to be a bear. Rarh. Turning into quite the animal themed evening.
21.24
Laura wants to be a bear. Rarh. Turning into quite the animal themed evening.
21.23
To cut a circumlatory question short: what do they think of Peter and Mark?
They have taken it “a bit too far”. They shouldn’t be trivialising the position, according to Laura.
She thinks that Ben has done “quite a bit”. Yes. Not publicised enough though, apparently.
21.17
Sorry readers, am trying to blog responses to questions but Peter was talking too fast!
21.12
The lights went down… the mood is changing. What trepidation for President.
21.12
Nice board.
What is NUS officer doing with these erotic quotes?? We like it.
21.11
Laura thinks the freedom of the press is v important… wants to protect individuals.
PWM: Feels a bit dubious approaching us. He is looking at me. Hello! Doesn’t think things need to be cut down massively.
Freedom. Yes.
21.08
How will they protect the freedom of the press then?
Good question methinks.
Laura has ears! That came as a surprise… oo–errr
21.06
Laura Bo, all dressed in white.
“Kinda wishes” she went first now.
I don’t think you can get drunk off Pringles, by the way. Bad welfare, commenters.
21.03
He is dancing! YAY.
21.02
Nice yellow tee Peter.
Certainly an eye-catcher.
Talking very fast. Bang on the table. Go go go.
21.01
Andrew McIlwraith not here… keep posted for news story tonight.
21.00
NUS officer is now encouraging a sing song. Having gone from “no extreme heckling” to “name that tune” she appears to have done a dramatic U-turn…
21.00
I hear Chris Young’s comforting tones in my ear.
He rubs his hands in anticipation. Pressure.
“Interesting… a lot of my opinions of many of the candidates have changed so it is useful. Humphrys is dishy.”
Aye. He is.
20.59
Nice hat Mr Tom Hobohm.
What does he think of tonight’s shennanigans… o sorry he is eating crisps off my editor’s hand… ATTENTION ME!
Charlotte Hogarth-Jones has also just called David Lavene a slaaaaaag (done all of James College, apparently). He loves it.
And Tom, Vice-Chair of James, adds his astute political perspective? “You have to be verrryyy good to to run against Peter.”
20.56
David is not very happy with me. Oops. What can he say? He is a perfectionist. I understand, David.
20.55
Oh my god everyone just voted Nouse or Vision and NOUSE won!!!! Thanks audience!
20.55
Matt making his work with Charlie quite clear here. Heard her name a fair few times throughout his speeches… anything else, Matt? Nouse or Vision? Bailey doesn’t seem to understand that THE YORKER IS NOT A YUM SOCIETY SILLY BOY. Now NUS officer wants a vote noooooooooooooooooooooooooo. WE WIN WE WIN WE WIN NUUURRRR NURRR NAAA. Pow.
20.52
Elanin seems to have some amnesia about her SATs. Yes, our paper looks pretty, and we are pretty. Ta.
20.49
Rose wants us. Yay. Get in.
20.49
Anyone see that little bit of head aerobics from NUS officer?! Watch and see if she does it again, it’s like a horizontal bending….
20.48
What did they all get in their SATs?
Ben: wants to slip something in behind… ooo-er. Charlie Leyland rigorously nodding away at Ben’s answers.
He didn’t do Year 2 SATs, for the others 3 5s, and 2 8s and a 7. Impressive.
Nouse or Vision? Loves us both very much… BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HE PREFERS VISION NOOOOOOOOOOOOO. NOT SO IMPRESSIVE NOW ARE YOU BEN, EH?
20.45
Sorry commenter, it seems like NUS officer has shunned your Nouse Vision fight to the death question. We did our best
20.41
David Levene twitching away on the next table… furrowing away with the fro down. Chin up, Dave.
20.38
Death of the poster distracted me from another of Ben’s passionate academic musings… wants a career in the academic world. Ben is the British answer to Kant, perhaps?
20.37
The evening ruined without that monolithic poster.
20.36
Rose: He’s going to stay here and study. Just can’t get enough of the duck poo, can we, Jason?
THEY HAVE TAKEN OUR BANNER AWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
20.36
The Nouse banner has just fallen down nearly killing all of the candidates. YUSU staff member to the rescue! Hooray! What a lovely chappy…
20.35
Do these guys really want to donate their year to this job? A few “oooooo”s from the audience there.
And what would they do if they didn’t get it? Wallow in relative obscurity, imagine!
20.35
NUS officer does have quite a sultry voice I must admit…
20.33
Our NUS Officer states that she has “the least silent phone ever” Alright, no need to boast…
20.32
Questions now: How do you plan to increase support for students studying abroad?
Returning Officer from NUS apparently loves Mika.
Elanin wants a clear system for students abroad, so they can know whats happening with their academic life. She also quite likes Mika.
Jason wants tuition fees cut for international students, and support especially for students studying in countries who don’t know the language. Jason n’aimes pas le Mika.
Ben confesses he listened to Mika’s first album on repeat for about 5 hours.
Matt Bailey says he’s friends with a few international students and thinks international course reps are a good idea. He thinks departments need to keep in touch with people studying abroad and make sure they get the proper support.
20.31
Richard McLoughlin, YSTV Station Director, tells Nouse: “YSTV are excelling tonight, their undeniable expertise is making for smooth and comprehensive viewing.”
Thanks for the lucidity Richard, you smooth operator.
20.24
Would they do anything about campus printing?
Exciting…
…. and online provisions?
Matt: Acknowledges that there are lots of problems with printing. Needs to standardise online provisions. Looked at sorting out this issue.
Elanin: The current printing system is a shambles. Thinks there should be more printing terminals available. Pay as you go printing? Got a little “woo” there, Elanin. Appearing user friendly is really important.
Jason: Uses his printer at home. Indicates that this is a problem. Indeed. More bandying of the word “standardise” regarding online provisions.
And Ben? Everyone has to be reminded to applaud. Oops. Humphrys isn’t fussed. Continuing in his Churchill-esque fashion. Printing credits = abysmal system. We need more course reps holding departments in account. “Serious fundamental structural issues” that “won’t be easy to change”.
Change change change… are we proposing the Russian Revolution?
Nice shirt though, Ben.
20.21
It’s water…although I would be open to a glass/bottle of red wine if anyone has some to hand…
20.19
Thanks Duncan… here’s a question then, if people in tonight’s audience are in fact members of Dragon’s Den, who’s who?!
20.16
A sneek peek here for Nouse of Freckleton’s speech, which ends with either “have a great evening” OR “other suitable ending”. Ooooh, can hardly wait. In all seriousness though, Frecks and Tim are the only two Presidential candidates to send across press packs for the media. Very handy they are too…
20.14
Rose up now. He gets a half-hearted cheer from one member of the crowd.
“I have more experience than all the other candidates,” he boldly claims. The two minutes aren’t enough for him. Apparently.
He emphasises the amount of committees he has been in over the past few years, especially the library committee. Wants to fight for further access to key texts.
20.13
Elanin up now. She believes that running has been a fundamental decision for her. We are the life and soul of the University and we come first. She promises to make Academic rescources easier to access and get departments to be more honest and consistent. She will campign, lobby and fight, and states that having this on her CV won’t be useful for her career. She will work with passion, skill and determination.
20.10
Matt Bailey:
Believes that he can bring clarity and transparency to the role. Emphasises tution fees… degree policy should not suffer due to the cuts. Believes that all students should have access to key texts (hear hear). Wants to increase communication with course reps and their availability. Passionate about pushing for change.
20.09
Academic Affairs now, Matt, Ben, Jason and Elanin.
Ben up first, states that we face “threats and opportunities this year as an institution. Plagerism rules target those who are misguarded and not the duplicitous, a broken system of combined studies and a laughable report on it. I am the one to face these challenges next year, we can make real change stronger in my communications”. Very Winston Churchill esque speech as well, lots of vigorous table thumping and “we will fight them on the beaches” style enthusiasm.
20.06
Charlie and Rhianna having fun.
Well that’s nice.
Humphrys very passionate. Go Ben.
20.05
I can confirm that the zip on Nick Scarlett’s top does not zip open onto his bare body.
Disappointing, one feels.
20.04
Ollie Hutchings is still wearing his hospital band. Awwwwww.
Everyone know why he was in hospital?
20.03
Elanin Vince states that “It is a sad day when the very real struggles of any individual or demographic are taken lightly, even if it is intended in jest” in relation to men women’s officer.
20.03
Thanks for heckling Mr Scarlett. I have been approached four times about how angry I must have been about Peter and Mark… yes I was. I don’t perpetuate any feminist stereotypes, clearly.
“Surely never in the history of hustings have candidates misjudged quite so much… AND if a joke isn’t funny the first time you say it, when you say it for the tenth time it is unlikely to strike the right note.”
Hear hear Mr Scarlett, my feminist hero.
20.01
Jason Rose thinks that the campaigns candidates answered the questions flawlessly and he really likes their idea of a college Campaigns Coordinator.
20.00
Jim Bulley: I RAN THE NEWS SECTION OF THIS NEWSPAPER FOR A YEAR AND AM ON SIX BLOODY [he emphasised how much he wanted bloody included there] CAMPAIGNS AND ALL I GET IS MR HAIR?????!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes Jim. You do.
20.00
No questions guys? No-one want to know anything other then stuff about badgers? Any other critters you fancy having a pop at? My mum thinks the more dead badgers you see the better it is, apparently it means they’re on the up?! Any opinions on that?!
19.58
Matthew Freckleton’s campaign manager Scott Murphy says that it will be a two horse race between Hutchings and Freckleton.
Well.
Jason Rose has just posted comment about where you can complain if you are offended by Peter and Saul.
Do it.
Mr Hair Jim Bulley has privately informed me that he affectionately appreciates his number one fan. Ta.
19.56
OK, up next is Academic, then Welfare, President and then we all go t’pub. Hoooray!
19.55
Ah yes, sorry everybody, I’m a twit, the running order is in fact on the blackboard and I’ll just type it out…
19.52
Chris Etheridge: Mark Pickard advised to leave Tories.
“Absolutely disgusting and downright offensive. Puts down every piece of work, it’s humiliating.”
One word to describe his campaign?
……………
Has to have a think about this one eh?
“Particular unique selling point.” That’s not one word. Did him and Jason become campaigns just to become sabbs? No he says. No no no.
Certainly not running because it’s a sexy job. Ah well.
19.49
Tom Flynn: “the badgers and the russells fight each other.” Lots of dynamic hand movements accompanying it. O dear.
Strongly deny that they are running for campaigns so that they can run for a sabb position. Not sexy, apparently. Jason and Chris, would you like to take note?
19.48
Sorry Anon, we don’t know the order for the rest of the night, YUSU didn’t know when we asked…if only we did *sigh*
19.47
Are they going to give up on the portering campaign? (followed by a big ooooh from the crowd)
and lots of other silly silly questions…something about badgers being your feet?!
“No we are not going to give up on the campaign” They state that the nature of the campaign has changed, but will do what they are mandated to do.
19.45
Peter Saul & Mark Pickard just overheard saying, “this crowd is far too left-wing and uptight.”
I think not.
19.45
Luke and Suzy think that campaigns should be more dynamic and exciting. They want a college campaigns communicator to encourage information flow through to college level. They will campaign on new issues as they arise but campaign what they are mandated to do through UGMs.
19.43
Campaigns officers up now…
19.43
David Hansen keeps flitting in and out. I think he is preparing to ignite.
Jim Bulley, keep the hair. It is your identity, embrace. Your biggest fan x
19.43
They want a greater campus presence and to be helpful to all sorts of other committees. They are considering a cross-liberation careers fair. Nifty.
19.41
Peter Warner-Medley is very impressed by all the candiadtes running for LGBT this year. He feels this especially considering that they are all relatively new to the community. Thought the answers to the trans questions was particularly good: “It’s always a difficult issue.”
19.41
What our their views towards non-white students running as Racial Equality officers?
They are keen to have particpation from anybody regardless of race, and want a wide range of representatives on the committee.
19.38
Mandi Modavo & Winnie Amoaku up now and running uncontested. They want to encourage ethically diverse campaigns. “Racism is something that deserves careful consideration” They want transparency in everything they do and keeping a high campus prescence.
19.37
Racial Equality officers up next…
19.36
Ex Nouse Editor Henry Foy claims that the male womens officers “lowers [his] opinion of the University as a whole” and that he “can’t believe these people meet our entry requirements”.
19.36
O yes they do think it’s important. Helen: LGBT film library.
Education. Education. Education. Blair is in the room.
19.35
One more round of questions:
Are the campaigns worth continuing?
How important is it to educate everyone about LGBT and how well will they fulfill the role?
Tom and Nell: Want to continue ‘love without borders’ campaign. Do want to introduce something “new and different”.
Their main policy is welfare for education.
Helen and Philip: Both extremely proud of Peter and Elanin. However, they want to “increase lots of events that promote taking a positive attitude” to being part of the LGBT committee. Everywhere should be a safe space… but this will be quite difficult in the real world. Completely agree with Tom and Nell with education…. hmmmm… nothing new?
19.34
Tom and Nell believe “it’s more important to focus on campus as a whole and make sure that people are safe” They believe that everybody needs to know about LGBT and want to focus on education. They claim that people often say things they don’t necessarily mean which can offend people because they “do not know any better”.
19.31
The other two now, claim that trans inclusion is “necessary and important” and that “LGBT is being used as an umbrella term”.
They realise that the divide between LGBT Welfare and Events must be kept seperate.
“Anyone who can contribute contstructively” should be allowed and they question the value of including heterosexual people in LGBT.
19.29
Helen and Philip: want to introduce LGBT dictionary to improve people’s knowledge. Believe that YUSU and LGBT can work together… YUSU concentrate on the “serious stuff” according to Helen. Want an increase in communication on a personal level. Increased inclusion with the GSA and ISA for greater understanding of more outside communities.
19.27
Questions now:
How will candidates increase awareness of trans people and trans issues and including them in LGBT?
19.26
Helen and Philip, LGBT.
“We feel that there can be an issue with apathy” on campus, and above all they wish to change this.
Want to promote acceptance and pride of LGBT members on campus. Want to improve integration and accessibility of the community.
19.25
Tom and Nell with their speeches up first…
They believe LGBT is “less what you do and more what you are”.
They want to look at issues both nationally and locally and will encourage anyone to contribute.
They believe that “understanding one another is essential for Welfare” and “don’t want to tell members of the society what they should and shouldn’t do or like”.
19.24
Quote from Peter Warner-Medley referring to Peter and Mark: “This is a wholly repugnant campaign… I find this extraordinarily offensive even though I am not a woman. As someone who attends women’s committee every week, the issues raised are very serious and it’s unacceptable to diminish them in this way.”
19.23
LGBT officers next, and a very tense atmosphere for the final “death to men” chant from the boys…
19.23
Janey states that the two boys “should not be on such a high position of responsibilty on campus”
19.21
Naughty language is to be watched, you “ultra leftie” potential women’s officers.
Certainly not my definition of being ultra leftie.
19.21
The boys claim that anyone booing them have “no sense of humour”
19.20
loads of loads of clapping and standing ovation here for everyone who wants these morons off the stage, I certainly do….
19.20
More questions….
What three issues at the forefront?
What active plans do they have to deal with trans-issues?
What campaigns are they going to continue with?
Janey and Charlotte: Think health and welfare are at the forefront. Want to work with LGBT. Want to further information and projects. Think all of last year’s events have been successful… want to branch.
Now to the “boys”.
Banning all fat women.
Attractive women on all plasma tv screens on campus.
They want to improve female prospects as housewives.
They think they have been successful in “pissing off every man on campus” The room severely disagreed.
I will be surprised if they leave this room alive.
19.19
Booing from the audience here at HUstings, all very dramatic, noone seems to like the boys responses which Laura will tell you in a minute…
19.16
Death to men.
Death to you, shouts one member of the audience.
19.15
What are the specific issues they will campaign for regarding health and safety?
Can men self define as women?
According to the boys, all men are rapists. This is ridiculous.
19.15
Hmmm…. the two boys here don’t seem to be going down particularly well at all, in contrast to the erm women women’s officers who are getting lots of whooping…which according to the Returning Officer has to be “limited”.
19.14
Boys are up now to answer the same questions, they think that “some people are more equal than others” (Animal farm anyone?), realistically on campus “we dont see this epidemic of unfairness”, they also want to “ban male candidates” on order to get more female ones.
19.13
In response to questions. Janey and Charlotte: Want to get more men involved and want to make the committee more accessible. Going to address that women are discriminated against in the workplace. How are they going to increase female candidates in YUSU next year. “Raise publicity… put plays on… improve awareness in general.”
19.11
Janey and Charlotte – very articulate ladies. Standing ovation from Charlie Leyland and Peter W M. Nice work.
19.10
Janey Stephenson and Charlotte Phillips speaking now for women’s officer….
They want to do a “love your body campaign” and address issues which affect both men and women.
They also want to create a “more efficient welfare system”, and seem to have got a lot more cheering and general good sounding noises then the two boys…
19.09
Women’s Officer candidates starting.
Peter and Mark are “actually women” and “they really really like women”. Mark says he is up for any one to one women’s action.
DEATH TO MEN!!!!! They declare. That was awful
19.06
Things are about to start…get here quick!
19.05
We’ve just had a question, supposedly for all candidates, “Would you rather have three non-removable nipples or no nipples at all?” This is turning into farce. Laura Connor, by the way, says she’d want three…
19.04
Nick is in some wonderful attire. He has been supposedly “following fashion trends very closely recently.” He expects himself to be in the next fashion section of Muse. If not Fusion.
He tells me with a tear, “They haven’t called yet.”
Camilla Jenkins, take note.
19.04
“ollie ollie ollie, oi oi oi” is the most recent chant to go on at tonight’s Hustings, followed by a sexy little dance by Presidential Candidate Ollie Hutchings, clearly York Come Dancing has served him well for this race, does he have the dancing edge over YCD rival Tim?
19.02
So, no questions as of yet for the Nouse team, you really don’t want to know anything?
18.57
Apcar has been a very eager mouse and collected me some quotes.
Jason Rose: “Close battles will be won and lost here.”
Profound Jason. Profound.
He has also had a haircut. Sure campaign winner.
18.54
Chris Etheridge: “It should be interesting… it is difficult to pick a winner.”
Ollie Hutchings has stuck his posters on his t-shirt. What one word describes his campaign: “Shit.” Mr Foy has had an “input” in the speech hmmmmmmmmm. Apparently he is just trying to make Henry feel loved as he is “very lonely” at the moment. I see.
18.54
Pro-returning officer has finally arrived! Hoorrraaaayyyyyy!
18.50
Camilla Apcar of Nouse is slightly concerned that there aren’t many people here. WATCH THIS SPACE!!!! She is writing an absolutely stellar comment piece on it tonight. Mr Foy seems to think that there are fewer people here than last year…. hmmmm…. student apathy?
18.50
Presidential candidates are supposedly going to be done LAST. No chances of a quick runaway then everybody….
18.48
Laura here. Dave says, “I like to show myself some respect. I am exhilarated. I think lots of things are going to change after tonight.”
What one word describes him?
“Ignition.”
Gone to the loo. I think he needs to calm it.
18.47
Any candidates want to come and talk to us at Nouse? We’re on the front row, just had a lovely chat with Dave
Candidates to be briefed now, if you’re supposed to be here and you’re not you’re in trouble!
18.44
and it’s an entry from Frecks 4 Pres campaign team, wearing some very swish t-shirts…
18.43
You are right anon. commenter, Anon and Anon are indeed dressed in his and hers jumpers…
18.42
Anybody want to know anything in particular about Hustings? Have you lost a friend and you want us to shout for them? There are loads of us here from Nouse and we’re happy to oblige with any minor errands…probably…
18.40
Rhianna has just informed me that if you want to ask candidates questions you can post them on our lovely blog and then we will write them on a piece of paper and hand them over…apparently YUSU n’aime pas le laptop….
18.38
bahahaha Presidential Candidate Dave (not David Levene, other Dave) has just made a dramatic entrance, striding in and looking serious….
18.37
oooh someone has announced that the Pro Returning Officer is in fact coming but will be late as she is driving from Manchester…
18.36
Things to be a bit confused with the YUSU Elections team….someone just asked me who is in charge, which is not such an easy question really….
18.34
Tim is giving everybody little green flyers and seems to be sporting the same image as last campaign…except this time with a jacket..snazzy.
18.32
OK Charlotte here starting the first night of Hustings blogging!

Saul and Anna are looking matchy-matchy in their official stripes!
I’m so excited! I’m sitting next to Charlie Rowley and Holly Treadwell who also cannot contain their excitement. Shame our view of the stage is ruined by Jim’s hair!
Other Dave has extremely preened looking locks…
Not just “had” – “gave himself” a haircut
And the Pro-Returning Officer who entered late was * from the NUS not * from YUSU. * was already here
*Edited by moderator: removed YUSU and NUS staff names
some joke candidates should be weeded out before the process begins.
“some joke candidates should be weeded out before the process begins.”
great idea!
Moderated
These two blokes are a joke. Disgraceful
Peter and Mark are awful. Not in any way funny. So embarrassing.
can we vote of no confidence their candidacy please?
Oh please don’t ask those twots any more questions.
I see the only two candidates not husting tonight who have bothered to show up are Nick Scarlett and Chris Etheridge…..
Thank god we don’t have to hear them again. I hope the two girls realise they’ll win cos they’re good and bot cos the two blokes are idiots
There are candidate complaints forms available from * or from the YUSU building. I believe that “student welfare” is accepted as a reason for disqualification, if anyone’s interested.
*Edited by moderator: YUSU member of stafff
What absolute idiots! Peter and Mark should be ashamed.
Moderated
Absolutely shocking. I’ll be filling out a complaint form.
Oli – where are you in the audience?
He’s on the penultimate row from the very top
To your left bruv. With the Strongbow cans.
Aren’t YSTV looking fly tonight!
Should Peter Campbell really be on chatroulette.com during the hustings?
Not impressed….
I can’t see past Jim Bulley’s hair. Can someone please cut it during the interval?
I notice the bigots Peter and Mark have left. Good riddance.
I waved at you Oli, but you didn’t see me. We have cans of export….
Those 2 idiots will be single for a very very long time!
WE LOVE LUKE AND SUZY! YEAH!!!!!!111!!11?11
LUKE IS WEARING A DASHING TOP, STRIPY, NICE, ROLLED UP AT THE SLEEVES.
SUZY IS WEARING A TASTEFUL TOP, NICE HAIR AND GOOD SHOES.
VOTE SUZY AND LUKE!!111!12!!!?!?1//1
What’s the running order for the rest of the night?
I’m available to hire for birthday parties, barmitzfahs and any other family events.
Phone number 0800-I-MAKE-U-ROFL
Flynny
The hair stays. There’s plenty of space in front if you want to sit on the floor
is the running order not on the blackboard? i see something there…..
I want to know more about these varied positions you were talking about! OI OI!!
Vote Mandi Madavo and Winnie ‘Balamory’ Amoaku.
I LOVE JIM’S HAIR! HE LOOKS LIKE THAT LLAMA FROM THE FACEBOOK GROUP!!
Can I perch in your hair for a better view please Jim?
The correct, traditional YUSU hustings question was:
Would you rather eat a live badger, or have Jack Russell Terriers for feet?
YSTV fallen asleep?
Surely it’s feathers for fingers or jack russells for feet?
What?! Now David Levene has sat infront of me and I can see f*** all.
I’m going home.
I thought it was ‘Would you rather have your non-writing hand removed or eat a live badger’?
I’m sad to see Mr Rose not wearing one of our football shirt tops tonight.
Why has Jason Rose added me on facebook when I’ve never met him?
I’m Duncan Banner-tyne from Dragons Den, expert on health gyms and banners.
I would just like to point out that Nouse’s banner is bigger than YSTV’s banner. For that reason, I would like to invest.
For YSTV, i’m not interested. I’m out.
The badger question was updated in light of the recent financial crisis.
Is the Nouse team drinking Frosty Jacks from a bottle on the left of the room?
Why does that girl from coach trip keep on whooping from the back row? I’ll give her a red card!
Moderated
Yes it’s true. Chris young is still sitting next to me. I don’t like that boy, he just follows me around and moans non-stop about what ‘grinds his gears’ tonight he just won’t stop going on about jims hair!!
@Duncan Banner-tyne
It’s OK, Theo Paphitis has already offered us a small fortune for a very small share in our student TV station. But good luck with Nouse.
In other news, YUM is kicking arse tonight.
Amen to that!
(The Mika question)
Where is Grace this evening? Can you see her? No.
I’m taking her to Iraq with me. RAH RAH
elanin was in my seminar and did just messed around on facebook when she even showed up.
My first album went platinum 5 times over! That’s 5,000,000 sales!
YSTV can shove it!
Call those questions? They are BORING! Come on. Come on!
Is Matt Bailey the love child of Matt Burton and Sam Bailey?!
Can’t Leyland run again?! She’ll be missed so much at YUSU! Stay Charlie! Stay Charlie!
Oi, Charlotte, is this a conspiracy?!
YSTV banner wins!
YES!!!
Our banner plan worked!! HAHAH! Serves you right Nouse, you posho broadsheet!
Long live the tabloid! LONG LIVE VISION!
P.s we win more awards than you do!
YSTV rules alone!
I would just like to say I’m watching YSTV’s live stream and I’m loving it.
Like Moira, I am also watching YSTV’s live broadcast and I’m loving it. Awwoooga!
Board listening to all this? Watch YSTV’s entry to the student TV awards instead. You get to see the physics building explode!!
http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=335545386330
Surely hidden course costs are hidden?! How do you know what they are?! THEY ARE HIDDEN!
Like my good friends Moira and Trevor, I am loving YSTV’s live broadcast!
to the ac affairs candidates: nouse or vision?
Charlotte Hogarth-Jones is hot!
The race for Academic Officer is all academic anyway.
URY or YSTV?
I usually go with the what banner they have and whether or not they can keep it up. Wahey!
im tho happy nouthe are doing thith live broadcatht. p.s. jathon rothe ruleth
Lolz @ Dan Taylor’s comment. Unfortunately, no one else reading this really knows who Grace is anymore. Or who you are. Or me.
But lolz.
Ah never mind…. NUS officer can get away with that…! Worth asking other candidates that though? PRESIDENTS!
Comment edited by moderator: NUS staff name
Save the preferred media society questions for the presidential candidates – they should have interesting answers!
YAY!!!
20:48 – Will this answer lead to some media bias?!?
Well, Ben has lost my vote with his preference of Vision. It’s your chance to claim it Jason Rose…say the right thing.
Chris’ phone has ran out of battery he wants me to apologise on his behalf for following me around xx
To make up for ‘If it’s not too late…’, presidential candidate question in advance: URY or YSTV?
Nouse looks pretty!!! Yeah we do!
I’d go URY, listening in. Although YSTV are pretty hot tonight too…
YSTV Banner FTW!
Nice balanced audience to do Nouse/ Vision voting – at a Nouse event!! Brilliant. Face it guys, you’ve lost the edge on Vision. For the last year they’ve been way better than you.
I wish I was that kettle chip
Bulley’s hair is in the TV shot.
I am getting massively drunk on Tiger beer and pringles! I love hustings, yeah!
YSTV’ll need to make sure people know that Pete’s talking at actual speed, then.
Is Peter trying to be me? Seriously?! He can’t rap that well…
Christ Peter! Take a breath!
I like talking really fast
marry me peter?
PWM loves Nightline. Therefore we love PWM.
Of course he’s dancing, that’s all he’s known for isn’t it?
Fancy having a tanning session with me later, Peter?
Laura, if you want some cut-price election tips, just drop me an email.
Let’s watch YSTV’s student TV award entry during the break before the presidential candidates – http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=335545386330
Woo go Peter!! He knows exactly what he’s talking about! He’s also far too modest… He’s been involved on many levels to help with student welfare issues and been successful throughout. Laura has empty promises and not much of a clue… Bye bye bear, just go home.
Oliver Hutchings has been to the toilet a good 5 times now. I like a guy who uses his bum!
Peter doesn’t need any gimmicks or to copy shit policies from shit candidates… He can also TALK.
Grace was great. <3 to Nouse. Shame that you only have one person's answer for some questions and Charlotte Hogarth-Jones seems to be getting pretty hyper/excited!
Also I forgot to say that next year I'm getting married. Oops.
Freedem of the Press – extremly important. No kidding.
At least one of the candidates knows what they’re talking about…
Why do all Laura’s clothes have ears attached? Fashion statement or campaign policy??
Don’t worry, if young Oliver takes one of me every hour, he’ll do just fine.
Finally, Nightline get the recognition they deserve.
Are the camera men actually doing anything? They are just standing and looking at the cameras. Let’s have some extreme shots, guys!
He is so good that he can make the lights go off! Imagine what he could do if elected…
CHECK MA BOARD! Brrrrrrrraaaaaaap.
What about Documentary V instead of Porno V? I’m going as a fossil from Cornwall.
I’m going to strap a rocket to my back so I can keep up with Peter’s answers. Then I’m going to drop an anvil on his head. Jokes.
I once shagged a fossil from Cornwall, but Charles didn’t mind about it.
It’s not our job to make this evening any more exciting- if you’re bored blame the candidates!
Questions are shit.
A little less conversation, a little more action please.
Since these will be going online per candidate, the shots need to be sensible. The camera ops could put the cameras into night mode when the lights go off though – that would make the edited videos a bit more interesting!
Don’t worry about quoting Peter exactly, just “Peter talked fast, he was full of amazing ideas and knowledge. Vote Peter!” will do nicely.
FYI, we’re the best society on campus. We actually spank other ones, such as, film making. They have what, like, 10 members?
Question for candidates:
We’ve heard about your own strengths but what are the strengths and weaknesses of your opponent?
I read that as “we actually spank one another” and then had to re-read it. Definitely a contrast of candidates here, though!
p.s. as we all know, welfare is about pizza, what’s your favourite take away in york?
De der de der de… CHIHUAHUA!!
yaaaaaaaay! Ben! (will you marry me too?)
‘Laura wants to be a bear’
This sounds like it’s continuing from the YSTV station meeting opening question on Monday!
First video from tonight online already!
http://ystv.york.ac.uk/watch/Election-Night/2010/Hustings-2010/Campaigns-Officer/Luke-David-Sandford-and-Suzy-Dodd/
Peter has already won the election.
“How would I ensure students are safe in town”
I’d arm them. Free guns for all.
Time to watch YSTV’s student TV award entry during the break before the presidential candidates – http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=335545386330
If only he liked me. If only.
Moderated
Laura has no chance of winning after that…
Time to fix the Nouse banner?
NOUSE!!!!
A LOT ARE TWO SEPARATE WORDS!
Shame on you.
i cannot wait for this. David Hansen 2010
Got to be Ollie! No competition.
PRESIDENTS: Nouse or Vision?!
everytime i’ve seen Tim he’s always wearing that shirt. Does he own any more?
“Tim says he is the first president in 8 years to involve and consult students…”
If Tim had actually bothered to get involved in student politics prior to the last Presidential campaign, he would know that comment is utter bollocks.
David Levene wants to take a page of Vision and Nouse every edition. Boo! He shouldn’t have said that. That’ll lose him a lot of votes.
Bushby was fond of the ‘I know nothing about YUSU so I can see the bigger picture’ slant. Worked for him.
Who is this Freckleton guy anyway?
Or Hutchings?
‘overhaul the media charter’ – isn’t that the YUM Chair’s job?
Costcutter and Your:Shop closes at 9.00pm… would you support a 10.00pm closing so we can buy more strongbow?
I’m pretty sure a few Presidential candidates have plaigerised from the West Wing….
“vote for the candidate who shares your ideals, your hopes, your dreams….”
Good to see more joke candidates running this year in the form of Tim, David, Roberto, Freckleton and Hutchinson!
Roberto Powell was very impressive
When I was called Paul, no one visited my Italian Bistro.
But then I added an O at the end of my name, and bob’s your uncle, Paulo’s Italian Restaurant was the busiest place in the high street.
If it worked for me, it’ll work for Roberto Powell.
Like the Property comparison website idea.
Nice to see Dave copied my hair do!
That Dave bloke might just win this…
keep it cool?
Tim is deffo keeping it gay with that shirt!
Is David Levene Gay?
I thought Robert Powell was the joke candidate??!? Maybe that’s why he doesn’t like hansen?
Well the sabbs just end up in the local Commet after their term anyways
David Hansen definitely sounds like a politician. Reminds me of the ‘Yes Minister’ episode with the mixing up of the two speaches which had the same generic opening to answer any question!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIKJgNQk6i4
Hi,
I’m the Wella Representative for the north of England and I’d just like to say I’ve spotted a lot of contenders for this year’s pretigious ‘Hair Do 2010′ award.
David Levene’s barnet looks like it might be playing host to a few rare species of bird; Sam Houlders has a fabulous fro going on, David has a certain slicked back sexiness, but the ultimate winner must be Jim Bulley: just look at his bush!
It’s 118 118 here!
Ollie, if you loose this election, please feel free to get in touch with us.
Woah! Not just go home and watch TV and have a nap… go home and sleep on the doctor’s orders and also watch the Debate online! And thanks to Ben for saying that I’m better than I came across
Illness not so good at showing what you’re like!
@Annon: I take exception to that. Sabbs have gone on to do great things. Like sell 42″ plasmas. And 52″ plasmas. And blu-ray players.
When I was told I would be in Halifax, I thought I would be in a low cost, budget bank with a that joke Howard Moon representing me.
Little did I know that I was actually in a low cost, budget college with that joke Roberto Powell representing me.
What are the odds?
Hutchings out!
Right, so that NUS lady ignored our question before but could you get her to ask this again:
Apart from yourself, which candidate do you think is best for the Presidential role in YUSU?
Thanks.
Oliver, Chris and Chaz
PS anyone got any more drink? we’re dry at the back…
I’m enjoying a Magners purchased from McQs in the break, Oli. It’s lovely
.
QUESTION FOR PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES: If you had your wicked way with Jane Grenville, what position would you choose?
Getting Jenny Coyle’s words of wisdom down the phone:
on Pickard and the other one: “I think it’s safe to say that campaign is dead in the water
on some of the less confident speakers: “It was painful to watch, I’m not gonna lie”
Moderated
I think freckleton might be getting himself confused with Tim. Mobile phone app – already on it. Groupspaces ambassador – that was Tim too!
Nouse, Nouse, give us a wave.
How long does Ollie spend in the gym to get those guns?
R-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-roberto h-h-h-h-h-has a-a-a-a- s-s-s-s-s-stutter.
R-r-r-r-r-ro-o-o-o-o-o-f-f-ff-f-f-f-f–fl-l-l-l-ll-
I’m going to win with my poker face.
Presidents… noooouse or vision???????
Stop talking about that Blah Blah Blah!
Question for the Presidents:
Now the threat of the Mysterons has passed, what would you do to prevent YUSU coming under extra-terrestrial attack in the future?
Nouse team!
Give us a wave! Give us a wave! Give us a wave!
Come on Nouse! Give us a wave!
Would candidates rather have one testicle or three?
OBLIGATORY COMMENT
Ollie will you be my Rude boy?
Love Chris and Rhianna
love the shirt tim. Just nd 2 fil it out like the nus woman
Can we not have this NUS woman next year? She’s terrible….
173 comments on this?! Brilliant!!! Well done Nouse guys! Well done!
Thanks Ollie,
You’re lovely too. Although frankly we didn’t really need to hear that story about your hospital visit.
Not if you post a reply that makes it 174. Undermined!
- charlie was throwing pain killers at him because he was in pain! It was a throw of affection.
NOUSE this is ystv….we have your banner held captive…be warned……
I thought Powell was surprisingly impressive. Talked a lot of sense and seemed genuinely passionate. Interesting stuff!
I want to autotune Peter’s speech.
Really enjoyed the coverage. Watched the first half from the hall and the rest in the Goodricke JCR live.
Roll on tomorrow night!
@ Hasssan Meerr
Sorry! With great hair comes great responsibility
@ Martin Williams
I know Nouse and Vision are really really pushed for space some editions, and obviously I’m not going to demand space. But as I said, there’s room for compromise, and I’m sure something can be worked out
@ Annon
Wanna find out?
Did you break a record on number of comments? I don’t know, blog post to follow…
Massive lol at the newspaper floor vote in Nouse’s favour- as if your standard alcohol swilling, drug boshing, badly nourished, course cruising, basely moraled student has turned up to hustings tonight… Nouse is a collaboration between people taking student life and themselves farrr too seriously, the kind of people who will inevitably be your boss one day. With that in mind, if you don’t dislike Nouse now, give it 5 years…
Almost all Hustings videos for today are now online at
http://www.nouse.co.uk/elections/candidates/ or
http://ystv.york.ac.uk/watch/Election-Night/2010/Hustings-2010/
President candidate videos should be on soon.
Edit: Pres videos now online!
@dan walker; is that “hes east goodricke” or what is now the james college jcr?
will there be video footage put up of the questions asked too? i want to rewatch the hilarious crash and burn of Mark Prickard and Peter Saul-less!
I think we all learnt something tonight, Charlotte and Janey are fucking heroines.
@Question for YSTV
We’re working on it!
so true Hutchings! whoop!
Laura Connor is hot
As is CHJ
freckletons speech was remarkably similar to langrish’s of last year
Just watched the videos for the president and personal ties aside it is clear Tim and Roberto made the best speeches. Don’t really see how that can be debated
I personally disagree – Dave had the best speech
@mike “is that “hes east goodricke” or what is now the james college jcr?”
That was the Goodricke JCR at Hes East. Put it up on the projector and watched it with a bunch of people.
Good job, YSTV!
When voting for people you need to consider the job they have to perform:
You have to choose someone who you can imagine being able to successfully stand up to the University on important issues and be taken seriously (so sadly not Ollie or Elanin then)
You need someone who has actually cared about YUSU before they realised they didn’t have a job next year. So no Matthew, having nothing to do with YUSU doesn’t make you a good candidate it makes you a worse one. A two week handover can’t teach you all the issues, you need to already be familiar with them.
A point Etheridge made fairly well, though I’m not sure I can bring myself to vote for him. No point in making promises you know you can’t keep. *cough*Bretts*cough*
@ “A voice of sense”
“You have to choose someone who you can imagine being able to successfully stand up to the University on important issues and be taken seriously (so sadly not Ollie or Elanin then)”
Ollie has been a college chair and Elanin is a part-time officer. What do you know that the rest of us don’t about their ability to be taken seriously by the university, their ability to assess what issues are important and their reasons for running?
“You have to choose someone who you can imagine being able to successfully stand up to the University on important issues and be taken seriously (so sadly not Ollie or Elanin then)”
i don’t understand this. to me Elanin seemed the most serious about the job out of all the other Academic candidates.
It upsets me that you didn’t manage to reach 200.. so here you go Nouse, lucky number 200!
