Tomorrow’s Varsity football and rugby fixtures have been cancelled due to waterlogged pitches.

Heavy rain over the last few days has caused pitches on the 22 Acres to be unplayable for this weekend’s annual tournament against York St. John. The news comes after today’s rowing was replaced by an indoor ergometer event due to flooding on the Ouse.

Football fixtures have been replaced by a five-a-side games in the tent and three six-a-side teams, consisting of regular university first team players, competing on the AstroTurf.

Last year Varsity was cancelled due to fixture congestion after a large amount of BUCS matches in the Spring Term were called off following prolonged bad weather.

Emily Scott, York Sport President, described the 22 Acres as “like a swamp” and said that she was “absolutely gutted about the weather putting a spanner in the works”.

Nouse will be covering all of tomorrow’s action, with live blogging and match reports on nouse.co.uk throughout the day.
