Helen Houghton & Philip Morris

Candidate profiles from YUSU Elections 2010

If they are elected, Helen Houghton and Phillip Morris hope to promote the idea that “a person’s identity and sexuality is not just something to defend, it is something to celebrate and be proud of.”

They aim to accomplish this through “educational workshops [and] feel-good sessions.” Through the development of an LGBT-specific security campaign, the pair wants to ensure that no-one feels threatened about expressing their sexuality or gender identities.

Houghton and Morris also hope to “put the T back in LGBT”, by encouraging an understanding of what it means to be Trans, through setting up a wide range of awareness events. Their campaign is keen to promote the idea that “LGBT is not open solely to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans members”, something they aim to achieve by working within the LGBT community to “reduce heterosexism”.
