Dan Walker is former Goodricke Chair, and was in charge during the successful move to Heslington East. His experience of organising Freshers’ Week has provided him with a wealth of experience in organising entertainment, and his key policies include developing music acts on campus, and cutting the red tape around colleges organising their own events.
There is an overall emphasis in Walker’s campaign that YUSU must listen to students and open up more for discussion. He is also focussing on improving the experience of new students at York, especially with regards to improving Freshers’ Ball.
Walker promises to take greater advantage of The Courtyard and plans to use its mobile service units to provide events for Heslington East, or any college that does not have the bar facilities to put on an event of their own. Walker ultimately aims to have a Heslington East dedicated social venue set up by the time that Langwith College moves on the site, as well as working with interested banks to install cash machines.
