Being the President of GE is hardly a comparison to ACORN. WMDs? Porn? Corrupting our youth? Give me a break. If you think the democrats confirmed Reagan’s choices without close scrutiny; you’re a bigger buffoon than Al Gore or John Kerry.

As far as Obama, Ayers and Dohrn are concerned – I would suggest you do a little research and be honest with yourself. Look into the Woods Fund of Chicago and Chicago Annenberg Challenge. These people are Chicago politicos, Mr. Biscuit.

“Reagan never appointed cabinet members with IRS issues.” – Really? You have in-depth knowledge if the tax issues of every single person Reagan appointed to the cabinet and know that every single one was squeaky clean?

You make more than one reference to the Bill Ayers issue, despite the two men not associating closely with each other and Obama condemning Ayers’ past. They served on advisory boards together, Obama didn’t seek out and befriend him.

In regard to the ACORN thing, Reagan was president of GE, an company who built and tested nukes (WMDs!!!!) and have some iffy accounting practices of their own. It isn’t mentioned much as it is totally irrelevant to the role he performed as president (this is an analogy, feel free to apply it to other things).

Reagan was however an actor and appeared in the following films: “John Loves Mary”, “The Rear Gunner”, “Stallion Road”, “Smashing the Money Ring”, “The Amazing Dr. Clitterhouse” and “Hellcats of the Navy”. In the spirit of not researching my opinions, I haven’t watched any of these, but it seems a little… suspicious that they all have titles that could be hardcore pornography, no? Maybe we should protest about him corrupting our youth? Seems odd no-ones denying the accusation he was a pornographer doesn’t it?

After Obama’s first month in office, a lot of people fooled by his campaign rhetoric began to recognize who he really was. His cabinet selections, lack of experince, arrogant approach to governing and radical political ideology were broadcast every minute of every day.

As far as comparing Obama to Reagan – Please.

As a senior American, I can tell you there’s no comparison between Ronald Wilson Reagan and Barack Hussein Obama.

Reagan never befriended anyone who demeaned, stood or spit on the American Flag.

Reagan never befriended anyone involved in domestic terrorist activities.

Reagan never belonged to a church that condoned or encouraged sermons condemning America or preached racism and hatred.

Reagan never appointed or allowed a known communist to operate within our government.

Reagan never appointed cabinet members with IRS issues.

Reagan never appointed an Attorney General who particpated in pardons for convicted terrorists.

Reagan never concealed any personal information about his marriages, birth, draft status or school records.

Reagan never belonged to or worked for an organization (ACORN) with ties to so many dubious groups.

Reagan never befriended people who admitted involvement in planting bombs at police stations and government buildings.

On and on and on.

I believe conservatives will be elected to our house and senate in 2010 and Mr. Obama will not be re-elected in 2012. Socialism will NOT prevail in America.

Obama – Trying to fix some wrongs by Bush and use a less confrontational foreign policy as well as introducing a better health care system… Not exactly Anarchy is it. Some would he socialist but i would definately say more liberal than previous Presidents of the USA but still a member of the Democrats….

When he got in his approval ratings were very high. There was also a recession on. A year or so after he was inaugurated, Reagan’s popularity hit a low at around 50%. Reagan’s popularity started to improve as the economy bounced back and he is now considered the most popular president of all time (according to various polls).

No matter what people assume/may tell you, at the start his views did not reflect those of the whole of the US. He was, however, an excellent orator and a very persuasive politician. By the time the 1984 election came around he won by a massive landslide.

The parallels, as far as I can see, are striking.

When it comes to representing the people’s views, the US is such a politically polarised place (more so now than when Reagan was President) that is very difficult to do so in any real sense. However, due to the broken nature of the US constitution there is much that is broken about the laws that govern the country. Obama has the best opportunity in decades to change it.

Obama has compromised and straddled the middle ground very well so far. He has signalled his willingness to drop the public option from the healthcare bill (and the Senate will most likely remove it), so as to avoid the worst of the flack from the right. He has promised to massively increase troop numbers in Afghanistan, and soon, whilst demonstrating that the US commitment is not open-ended – so as to please the hawks and the doves.

There is a lot that could go wrong from here, and of course the analogy with Reagan’s situation is not perfect, but as far as I’m concerned ‘where did it go wrong?’ is the wrong question. 50% is not a catastrophic approval rate at all – especially as the unemployment rate is above 10%. Assuming the economy improves (which, admittedly, it might not) I would be very surprised if it doesn’t turn out that his approval ratings improve significantly over the next few years.

Yeah, you’re right. Good spot. However, their small majority meant Clinton could make little legislative headway, perhaps best illustrated by his failure to pass anti-homophobia laws in relation to the military and any national healthcare legislation. As such, Obama is the first Democratic President to hold the White House, HoR and Senate, with a filibuster.

Just thought I’d point out the Democrats held the White House, the Senate and the HoR from 93-95, during the Clinton presidency.
