What I love about the anti-Obama tirades is the constant use of socialist as a pejorative term. Never mind the fact that what Obama is advocating isn't remotely socialist (especially now the public healthcare option has been dropped, by European standards he is actually slightly right of centre), what's wrong so with making sure that those left well off have a safety net and don't get shat on by amoral health insurance companies? Despite what some people think, it won't create a crisis which will obliviate entrepreneurship and the free market or lead to a culture of people relying on the state.

Peace, love, and state intervention. x

As much as I disagree with the whole 'Obama birth conspiracy' it is sweeping and ignorant of 'Sea Biscuit' to label them rascists.
You're counter examples are laughable and you made no credible point to dilute the importance and accuracy of the points made by 'Mary Bee'.
As for the crude comments regarding pornography...that just sums up the levels of intellect put forward by idiots on the left! Get a grip you fool!

'Mary Bee' is absolutely spot on and has mentioned all the points I would have noted against Obama and his socialistic agenda. The only point I'd differ on is in regard to his concealment of birth certificates and related documents. As much as I oppose Obama and all he stands for, such dubious attacks on his birth state and schooling hold no genuine credibility and supporting such arguments will only make the conservative opponents look worse than he is. Conservatives can simply destroy him and his radical agenda through exposing his true socialistic agenda and its risk to the people of America.
The ACORN association is a very credible point to highlight and just shows what environment Obama comes from and the mind-set he adopts. Corrupt Chicago politics and radical associates make up the Obama political foundations.
Trying to be the worlds 'best friend' will only open up Obama as a weak military leader.
Criticize Geroge W. Bush all you want yet at least he kept America safe and prevented another terrorist attack on U.S soil post 9/11. He demonstarted to the world that the U.S and its allies will not be defeated by terrorism and that the democracy and liberity will flourish in the face of terror and work to destroy its core bases.
A firm hand and decisive action is still needed; Obama does not offer this.
Carefully considered and private sector healthcare reforms are needed. Not socialised medicine and governmental interference.
A determination to bring terrorists to justice and prevent terrorism from thriving is necessary. Not releasing Guantanamo prisoners only for the vast majority to go on and commit terrrorist acts and rejoin cells.

Obama may succeed and if so God help America and the world.

My Dear Sea Biscuit

I don't see that I made one terrible point - and neither do you. How could I know this? Because your moronic reply tells anyone who reads it so. And, my dear Mr. Biscuit, your response is so very typical of a liberal without a proper rebuttal or logical answer.

Being the President of GE is hardly a comparison to ACORN. WMDs? Porn? Corrupting our youth? Give me a break. If you think the democrats confirmed Reagan's choices without close scrutiny; you're a bigger buffoon than Al Gore or John Kerry.

As far as Obama, Ayers and Dohrn are concerned - I would suggest you do a little research and be honest with yourself. Look into the Woods Fund of Chicago and Chicago Annenberg Challenge. These people are Chicago politicos, Mr. Biscuit.

Like others of your ideology, I fear you opt to be ignorant rather than admit you're wrong.

@Mary

Wow, a lot of really terrible points made there...

"Reagan never befriended anyone who demeaned, stood or spit on the American Flag." - You don't and have no possible way of knowing this, why claim it?

"Reagan never appointed cabinet members with IRS issues." - Really? You have in-depth knowledge if the tax issues of every single person Reagan appointed to the cabinet and know that every single one was squeaky clean?

"Reagan never concealed any personal information about his marriages, birth, draft status or school records." - Because he was white and gave racists no cause to raise the issue of his place of birth?

You make more than one reference to the Bill Ayers issue, despite the two men not associating closely with each other and Obama condemning Ayers' past. They served on advisory boards together, Obama didn't seek out and befriend him.

In regard to the ACORN thing, Reagan was president of GE, an company who built and tested nukes (WMDs!!!!) and have some iffy accounting practices of their own. It isn't mentioned much as it is totally irrelevant to the role he performed as president (this is an analogy, feel free to apply it to other things).

Reagan was however an actor and appeared in the following films: "John Loves Mary", "The Rear Gunner", "Stallion Road", "Smashing the Money Ring", "The Amazing Dr. Clitterhouse" and "Hellcats of the Navy". In the spirit of not researching my opinions, I haven't watched any of these, but it seems a little... suspicious that they all have titles that could be hardcore pornography, no? Maybe we should protest about him corrupting our youth? Seems odd no-ones denying the accusation he was a pornographer doesn't it?

@Big Dong Donkey Kong I am well up for some teabagging. I was well aware Obama was a socialist facist communist, but you have evidence that he's not human but in fact made of cotton? (TYPO LOLZ!!!1)

Where Did It Go Wrong?

After Obama's first month in office, a lot of people fooled by his campaign rhetoric began to recognize who he really was. His cabinet selections, lack of experince, arrogant approach to governing and radical political ideology were broadcast every minute of every day.

As far as comparing Obama to Reagan - Please.

As a senior American, I can tell you there's no comparison between Ronald Wilson Reagan and Barack Hussein Obama.

Reagan never befriended anyone who demeaned, stood or spit on the American Flag.

Reagan never befriended anyone involved in domestic terrorist activities.

Reagan never belonged to a church that condoned or encouraged sermons condemning America or preached racism and hatred.

Reagan never appointed or allowed a known communist to operate within our government.

Reagan never appointed cabinet members with IRS issues.

Reagan never appointed an Attorney General who particpated in pardons for convicted terrorists.

Reagan never concealed any personal information about his marriages, birth, draft status or school records.

Reagan never belonged to or worked for an organization (ACORN) with ties to so many dubious groups.

Reagan never befriended people who admitted involvement in planting bombs at police stations and government buildings.

On and on and on.

I believe conservatives will be elected to our house and senate in 2010 and Mr. Obama will not be re-elected in 2012. Socialism will NOT prevail in America.

The Joker - Anarchism (wanted to cause havok and distruction against any means of authority as he didn't believe in any whatsoever)

Obama - Trying to fix some wrongs by Bush and use a less confrontational foreign policy as well as introducing a better health care system... Not exactly Anarchy is it. Some would he socialist but i would definately say more liberal than previous Presidents of the USA but still a member of the Democrats....

So i am failing to understand the comparision.....

Why was his first order of business after the inauguration to sign an executive order ensuring these records are kept sealed?

I find it interesting that in this article there is not one mention of Reagan.

When he got in his approval ratings were very high. There was also a recession on. A year or so after he was inaugurated, Reagan's popularity hit a low at around 50%. Reagan's popularity started to improve as the economy bounced back and he is now considered the most popular president of all time (according to various polls).

No matter what people assume/may tell you, at the start his views did not reflect those of the whole of the US. He was, however, an excellent orator and a very persuasive politician. By the time the 1984 election came around he won by a massive landslide.

The parallels, as far as I can see, are striking.

When it comes to representing the people's views, the US is such a politically polarised place (more so now than when Reagan was President) that is very difficult to do so in any real sense. However, due to the broken nature of the US constitution there is much that is broken about the laws that govern the country. Obama has the best opportunity in decades to change it.

Obama has compromised and straddled the middle ground very well so far. He has signalled his willingness to drop the public option from the healthcare bill (and the Senate will most likely remove it), so as to avoid the worst of the flack from the right. He has promised to massively increase troop numbers in Afghanistan, and soon, whilst demonstrating that the US commitment is not open-ended - so as to please the hawks and the doves.

There is a lot that could go wrong from here, and of course the analogy with Reagan's situation is not perfect, but as far as I'm concerned 'where did it go wrong?' is the wrong question. 50% is not a catastrophic approval rate at all - especially as the unemployment rate is above 10%. Assuming the economy improves (which, admittedly, it might not) I would be very surprised if it doesn't turn out that his approval ratings improve significantly over the next few years.

I find it interesting that in this article there is not one mention of Reagan.

When he got in his approval ratings were very high. There was also a recession on. A year or so after he was inaugurated, Reagan’s popularity hit a low at around 50%. Reagan’s popularity started to improve as the economy bounced back and he is now considered the most popular president of all time (according to various polls).

No matter what people assume/may tell you, at the start his views did not reflect those of the whole of the US. He was, however, an excellent orator and a very persuasive politician. By the time the 1984 election came around he won by a massive landslide.

The parallels, as far as I can see, are striking.

When it comes to representing the people’s views, the US is such a politically polarised place (more so now than when Reagan was President) that is very difficult to do so in any real sense.

He has promised to massively increase troop numbers in Afghanistan, and soon, whilst demonstrating that the US commitment is not open-ended – so as to please the hawks and the doves.

Simon,

Yeah, you're right. Good spot. However, their small majority meant Clinton could make little legislative headway, perhaps best illustrated by his failure to pass anti-homophobia laws in relation to the military and any national healthcare legislation. As such, Obama is the first Democratic President to hold the White House, HoR and Senate, with a filibuster.

Thanks for your comment.

"Jimmy Carter left the White House in 1981 have the Democrats had control of The Oval Office, the House of Representatives and the Senate at the same time"

Just thought I'd point out the Democrats held the White House, the Senate and the HoR from 93-95, during the Clinton presidency.
