Weather puts paid to College Football Sunday

Heavy overnight rainfall has caused the postponement of Sunday morning’s College Football fixtures and created concerns over fixture congestion as the season reaches its finale.
The season will have to be extended until December 20th, after the official end of term, to accommodate the two rounds of matches postponed so far, plus week nine’s fixtures.
An inspection of the 22 Acres pitches early this morning deemed the playing surfaces unsuitable, with further rain expected today.
The title-chasing trio of Halifax, Derwent and Goodricke will be disappointed at the news. Halifax, who sit two points clear at the top, were due to play Alcuin; Goodricke were to face James; Vanbrugh were playing Langwith; and Derwent were looking to gain momentum against Wentworth ahead of next weekend’s potentially decisive clash with Halifax.
Today’s fixtures in the Emperor College Rugby Championship remain on at the time of writing, with 11am starts for Goodricke/Langwith/Wentworth vs. Halifax at the Archbishop Holgate School and Derwent vs. Alcuin at York R.I. James and Vanbrugh go head-to-head at York R.I. at 2pm.
Nouse’s extensive coverage of the College Football season will resume next Sunday.
