Nouse was awarded the prize for Best Student Website of the year at last night’s annual Guardian Student Media Awards.
The Nouse website triumphed over competition from Imperial College London, the University of Lincoln, Exeter University and Manchester Metropolitan University.
Nouse’s Features Editor of 2008-9, Holly Thomas, was named runner-up for the prize of Best Feature Writer of the year. Muse Editor of 2008-9, Liam O’ Brien, was also shortlisted for the prize of Best Diversity Writer of the year.
The University of Leed’s newspaper, Leeds Student, was announced as Best Newspaper of the year, beating competition from the University of York’s York Vision.
Michael Strothard, of the University of Cambridge’s newspaper, Varsity, was named Reporter of the year.
York has a history of success at the Guardian awards. Muse editor of 2007-8, Nicholas Woolf, won the award for Student Feature Writer of the year at last year’s award ceremony, whilst Nouse was named runner-up for Best Newspaper of the year behind Felix of Imperial College London.
john halstead was also nominated for sports writer.
