University saddened by death of Halifax Fresher

The University of York has expressed its sadness at the death of Halifax student Chris Woodhead, who passed away last week.

The University Press Office, in a statement released today, said: “We are deeply saddened by the death of Chris Woodhead. He was a first year student in the York Management School and a member of Halifax College. His family are in our thoughts and we are offering support to those who knew him here.”

Karen Fritz, Provost of Halifax College, said: “Although only a few days into his time at the University, Chris was already settling in to College life and building new friendships with his housemates.”

“The College is a community and the loss of one of its members will be felt by all of us,” Fritz added.
