College Cup quarter-final matchups decided

A convincing win for Alcuin Firsts against James Firsts today settled the final matchups for the College Cup quarter-finals.
On Monday morning at 11.00am Goodricke Firsts will meet Vanbrugh Firsts after last term’s league winners scraped a win against Derwent Firsts on Tuesday to secure second spot in their group. Goodricke, meanwhile, have dipped since establishing a very solid start – a lacklustre 3-2 against Langwith Firsts on Monday showing their vulnerability – and may be without some key players on Monday. Even so, Goodricke are remain slight favourites going into the game.
At 2.00pm on Monday, Derwent Firsts take on Alcuin Seconds after Udy Onwudike’s incredible last-second winner against Halifax Seconds gave them a surprise place in the next round. Derwent have been favourites for the Cup since the outset, and Tuesday’s loss to Vanbrugh will have little bearing on a game they are odds-on to win.
Tuesday’s 11.00am kickoff sees Alcuin Firsts take on Halifax Firsts after they topped their group today. Halifax have been struggling for form and much will depend on whether stars Ian McKellow and Joe Brennan can be lured out from their course for the game: Alcuin are favourites here.
The final matchup of the quarters on Thursday (11.00am) sees James Firsts take on Derwent Seconds after a last-minute James Grey winner against James Seconds gave the latter top spot in their group. With the ability of Mark McLeod and Mark Johnson in the middle of the park, though, James are heavy favourites to book a semi-final spot.
Meanwhile the third and fourth place teams from the group stages enter the quarter-final stages of the Plate next week, with Wentworth Firsts and James Seconds strong contenders for the crown.
As always, Nouse will be right here to guide you through the week’s action; expect match previews, full-match reports every evening after each Cup game, and a round-up of the Plate action to boot.

C’mon, 12 points for the mighty Goodricke!
When’s this week’s write up going to be posted? A win and a draw for Wenty is excitement enough, but I can’t wait to read what I am sure will be the most under-whelming report of Rich Rhodes’ goal (he was offside).
Dan, expect your regular Cup round-up fix early tomorrow morning. Some data lost in the post (my inbox)…
