There is a fair generalisation that any organisation is a squabbling band of sub-groups vying for power. It is only if faced with an external threat then the organisation will forget their differences and close ranks to resist the competition. You see it within families, brothers who consistently fight will come together to fight the bully, classes at school, schools, universities and countries. All groups fight amongst each other unless faced with an external threat.

Many rogue states like North Korea need an external enemy to hate. In the same was Palestinian culture is built around hatred of the Israelis, so North Korean culture is built around a hatred of Capitalism as exemplified by the South and the USA. By fostering this hatred we can unite the North Koreans in support of their government and thus indirectly support the regime. I expect the Northern Government delights in receiving the petty, unsuccessful sanctions doled out to it from the rest of the world. With nuclear weapons, I suspect the country will be more successful in its blustering and more successful in attracting the sanctions that the government needs to unite the people.

Perhaps we could try a “divide and rule” strategy. Find an opposition group, perhaps farmers, perhaps journalists, and support it against it’s internal enemys. This will chip away from the support of the government, until it explodes from within.
