York Carnival

This year’s York Carnival saw over 30 different acts playing the three stages throughout York. Participation came from both students and York residents alike, with some performers coming from as far as Leeds and Hull.

Particularly notable performances came from York’s own Anton “Dreamz” Murphy and Battle of the Bands winners Magnapow. The event was opened by YUSU President Tom Scott, in full pirate costume, and
Closed by YUSU President-elect Tim Ngwena. York Dance Soc also gave a number of performances on both the main Parliament Street stage and the in the marquee in St Sampson’s Square, where they led a dance workshop.

The parade this year was entitled “Going Global” and included six local primary schools. The students also got the chance to take part in activity sessions run by a number of University societies; Student Action, Samba York, People & Planet and Revelation Rock Gospel Choir.
