Female student attacked in Halifax

A student was attacked in the early hours of Monday 18 May as she walked home to her house in St Lawrence Court, Halifax.

The student, who had returned from York City centre unaccompanied in a taxi, was walking down the alley which connects St Lawrence Court to the 22 acres when she was attacked.

According to housemates the male attacker attempted to pull the victims leggings down but she was able to fight him off. The victim then ran to her house in St Lawrence Court and the attacker is presumed to have fled.

This attack is not the first to take place in this area near Halifax college. Just after freshers week this year three women were attacked on the same route. The attacks were separate but all took place on the same night, leading police to presume only one attacker was involved. No arrest was made.

The route has come under criticism in the past, with former Halifax President David Sharp campaigning the College and University to improve lighting for the safety of students earlier this year.

North Yorkshire Police are yet to comment.
