Campus Bulley » All work and no play for Team YUSU. Sort of.
In the week when campus hacks are buried under essays and exams it’s difficult to find any news to write about. My own exam isn’t until Friday evening, so I’m allowing myself this quick break from the monotony of political theory to take a look at what’s going on with our favorite campus politicians.
YUSU blogs, by the way, are nowhere near as helpful as I’d hoped. Charlie hasn’t got one. Alex and Rory haven’t written for months (although Alex’s is quite entertaining). Tom has never really written anything of substance, but he does post Weekly Info. Jamie’s still stuck in March and Matt’s written a very nice little essay to let us know what he’s been up to since he last wrote, in January.
I’m sure everybody is very happy to see that YUSU President Tom Scott has been busy the 5 weeks that we’ve been away. Looking at Tom’s website I have discovered that he has been working on two big projects this easter. Firstly Tweleted, a website that allows you to see peoples deleted twitter posts. Useful. Tom has also been hard at work inventing the Apple i, an iPod type device that sits on the users eye. And doesn’t exist.
In another attempt to avoid revision I’ve read Matt’s 765 word blog post so that you don’t have to. In short he’s spent the last 3 months doing stuff for the Courtyard, the NUS and Goodricke’s 40th Birthday. He’s also been leading a consultation about Ents Tech, and lending a helping hand with Roses. He’s trying his hand at a bit of exterior design outside Vanbrugh and he’s managed to fit a two week holiday in there as well. You may notice the lack of space for inventing imaginary technical equipment in Matt’s calendar.
Rory has presumably been very busy as well. Unfortunately the lack of twitter or a recent blog entry makes him very hard to keep track off. I can tell you that when I popped into the office earlier he was very busy cutting out the sabb officers names and sticking them to a big sheet of paper. A quick glance at his calendar does show that Rory has a lot of meetings based around meals or drinks this week, he’ll also be Keeping his Cool with Jamie.
Charlie is another invisible YUSU officer. With no blog and no twitter I can only presume that she’s been hard at work dealing with academic and welfare related problems. I did bump into her outside Somerfield last week though. We had a nice chat about music. Weirdly she was barefoot.
Jamie is busy Keeping his Cool this week. Anybody who is feeling a little hot and bothered should feel free to go and join him in the Goodricke dining room.
Alex is probably getting quite excited about Roses. But he has no blog so I don’t know that for a fact. He’s probably lost his keys again as well.
In other news: this blog was recently referenced in a second year sociology essay. I know because the guilty party told me. Exciting.

“In other news: this blog was recently referenced in a second year sociology essay.” – The Fill?
How did you guess?
Practice.
Bit of an odd piece… Charlie has been busiest with the Keep Your Cool week stuff, firstly. The side-projects of Tom that you mentioned are much less time-consuming than a lot of other things. They are often, ironically, too busy to post blogs sometimes and I think it’s a little harsh to criticise them for it… Also, you said “favorite” which isn’t spelt correctly. Other things too, though I can’t be bothered to go through them since I’ve got a JCRC meeting to get to
Agree with Jason really.
Don’t really get the point of it either, sort of a “hmmm, I don’t really know what any of them have been doing, tried to stalk it off the internet but had limited success” kind of things…
“Charlie has been busiest with the Keep Your Cool week stuff, firstly. ”
Busier than the other Sabs? What do you base this on, Jason?
Presumably on the governance review that was published last year, showing that the amount of work that the Academic and Welfare officer has to do is such that the position is potentially harmful to the occupant’s health. This is in fact the reason why it will now be split into two.
Based on being there, Anonymous? If Charlie or one of the Sabbs wants to correct me then they can do so – I only saw what happened in week 1, not the work the previous week, though I’m under the impression (not sure how accurate, of course) that she was the one who sorted all of the guests to come in, asked societies for help and publicised a lot of it. Either way, I am not attacking the other Sabbs or anything but thought it odd that she wasn’t even mentioned as being involved.
What have you been up to Jason? After all the high level University meetings you have been trying to arrange (ROFL) I doubt you should have time to post on Nouse 24 hours a day.
“If Charlie or one of the Sabbs wants to correct me then they can do so”
Surely you must realise that, particularly now you’re also an officer elect, much as they might like to, they’re not going to do so on the Nouse comment pages….
While it may be interesting to hear what our elected officers are up to, I feel as if I could have happily lived without knowing this information. Charlie not wearing shoes? Shouldn’t this be on the front page of Nouse instead?
While I usually appreciate a good Bulley blog, this one has turned out to be a rather damp squib.
Thanks for the ROFL, Anon… not sure what it’s aimed at since meetings are already arranged and several items on the original list have already gone a long way… And I don’t post on Nouse 24 hours per day. About 5 minutes per day – at the moment because I have 15 minutes before an event I’m going to and I have no facebook messages or emails that need a reply.
“Bored of JR”; I have had other individuals correct me with an equivalent of “well, Rory organised the stress management speaker and the masseuse” before so I don’t think there’s any problem with that. I was just pointing out that it’s a very shallow slice through the YUSU pie that hasn’t exactly been informative, deep-seeking *or* balanced.
Though it’s also worth noting that Tom Scott has posted a blog now if you wanted to go and read up on that.
Note: Jason is an officer, not an officer elect.
in fact jason rose is an officer.
part time officers took office at the end of last term.
sabbs are still officers-elect.
So is Jason Rose the new communications officer for YUSU? The writer of this blog should have just asked him about what the su is doing. He seems to be speaking on behalf of YUSU a great deal more than most officers.
Last time I checked (granted it was a year or so ago) the su had a media handling policy for officers that I’m pretty sure JR is in violation of. Surprised Shanks hasn’t had to smack him down yet.
I’m not, in any respect, speaking on behalf of YUSU and you well know that. I’m just pointing out, based on personal experience and knowledge, the inaccuracy of sections of the article where I see it. However, maybe the writer of the blog should have asked the SU what the SU is doing instead of simply relying on blogs. Any don’t forget that Officers give reports at UGMs.
Also, don’t be insulting and post anonymously just so that you can have a go at me. It’s ungentlemanly.
