Ouse body ‘not Claudia’

A body found this morning in the River Ouse is not that of missing University chef Claudia Lawrence, police have said.

North Yorkshire Police have released the identity of the body as 68-year old Pauline Armitage, who was reported missing from her home in Doncaster on 7 April.

The body was found at Bishopthorpe Bridge, close to where the A64 crosses the river, at 1050 BST on Friday, North Yorkshire Police said, after a call was made to the force.

The circumstances of death are not being investigated, and are not being treated as serious.

Police had earlier said that there was “no indication” that the body was that of Lawrence, who has been missing since 18 March.

In October 2007, the body of the third year Chemistry student Rob Davies, was found in a nearby location in the Ouse.
