Police to concentrate on University in search for missing chef

Police gave a fresh appeal for information regarding the whereabouts of Claudia Lawrence today, adding that further searches will be focusing on the University of York.
Detective Superintendent Ray Galloway, head of the investigation, said that the police still had no idea where Claudia was despite “significant lines of inquiry”. He thanked the public for their previous help but expressed the need for further assistance. His plea coincided with the release of CCTV images showing a vehicle resembling a Ford Ranger Thunder parked outside Claudia’s Heworth home between 21:01 and 21:37 on the evening she was last sighted.
It was also revealed that Claudia had ordered a clothes delivery to arrive at her home on Friday, suggesting that she did not plan to go anywhere before then.
Chief Inspector Dave Hannan, deputy head of operations, said that he had “received nothing but help from members of the public” and had organised civilian searches to take place alongside those by the police. He said that the searches and investigation would continue, with “particular attention to the university”. Over the last few days police have been searching in the lake on campus.
This afternoon Claudia’s father, Peter Lawrence, thanked the public for their recent efforts in what he described as a “very tough” few weeks. Standing outside the Roger Kirk Centre, where Claudia worked, the solicitor from Malton thanked York shops and Claudia’s local Heworth pub ‘The Nag’s Head’ for their help in the search. Family friends from the Malton and Norton Rotary Club, where Peter Lawrence was formerly president, were putting up new posters of Claudia on campus this afternoon.
The North Yorkshire Police also revealed a van, with a screen on its side showing images of Claudia, that spent the afternoon driving around the Heworth and Tang Hall areas in order to raise awareness of the search.
Update: North Yorkshire Police have now ruled the dark-coloured vehicle seen outside Claudia’s house out of their investigation after the owner of the vehicle came forward.
