‘York Come Dancing’ contestants name Sam McCormick “favourite to win”
Competition for ‘York Come Dancing’ seems to be heating up after a special press conference today.
All contestants seemed eager to win, but there was a general consensus that campus ‘celebrity’ Sam McCormick is current favourite. Nouse Editor Henry James Foy and YUSU Academic and Welfare Officer Charlie Leyland were also popular choices.
Other campus ‘celebrities’ in the event include YUSU President Tom Scott, YUSU Services and Finance Officer Matt Burton and YUSU Student Development and Charities Officer Jamie Tyler. RAG President Helen Adams, Comedy Soc Secretary Miranda Thomas and GSA Treasurer Tom Flynn will also be competing alongside political activist Dan Taylor. Union Council member Alex Fink has stepped in at the last minute to replace Derwent Chair, Joe Rankin, who dropped out.
The final event will be taking place on the 8th of Feb, and will be hosted by Joey Ellis and Matt Cornock. Competitors will be judged by Joel and Sarah Chapman from the Rock Academy of Dance and all proceeds will go to RAG. Tickets will be available online at the YUSU website.

I could name plenty of people who could be considered “campus celebrities” but I suspect that it would be impossible to put them all in a dancing competition together without having it run for several weeks…

I would honestly be impressed if Dan Taylor won.
I’d also be impressed if a huge manatee fell from the sky and landed on him but neither is likely to happen though so I think I’ll just turn up and enjoy the event.

No offense meant to Miranda Thomas but, apart from being rather hot, why is she described as a campus celebrity?
I mean, really no malice intended, it’s just that I can think of more prominent people on campus than the secretary of the comedy soc.
On the other hand of course, Dan Taylor was invited, and he is neither important nor presentable.
In fairness, Miranda Thomas DOES write Have I Got News For York, and, if you’ve ever met her, she is loud enough to be a “celebrity”.
Plus, as you said Mr McCain (you old dog), she is pretty damn hot. Good enough to see dancing wearing not a great deal in my books…
