Honorary degree for BBC journalist
BBC journalist Sir Mark Tully CBE will receive an honorary degree from the University of York in the July graduation ceremonies. Tully, who was Chief of the BBC’s Indian bureau in New Delhi for 22 years, is widely regarded as one of the sub-continent’s most insightful broadcasters. The 72-year-old, who was born in India, gave the annual Toleration lecture at the University in 2000. Other notable honorary degree recipients for July include Lord Stern of Brentford, former Chief Economist and Senior Vice-President of the World Bank, and celebrated actress Billie Whitelaw CBE.
