I still had a damn good time, made some great friends etc. Just because an event is perhaps "alcohol based" doesn't mean you HAVE to drink to enjoy it. I generally do drink a fair whack, but can enjoy time without a tipple as many do. I have to say I liked most of this article, but you talk of "forced assimilation", but yet you yourself were not "assimilated" into drinking in the first week. Unless you're surrounded by indoctrinating dickheads (which most people aren't), nobody is forced to drinking in freshers week if they don't want to, at least nobody I've met!
