The Metros

Artist: The Metros
Track: Education Pt. 2
Rating: * *

The Metros choose to sing about what they know; as a teenage band barely out of school themselves the result is a song that feels familiar even upon the first listen. Lyrics such as “I had a mate called Paul/ And he was never too cool/ Got himself chucked out of too many schools” feel clumsy, and references to ASBOs and GCSEs feel like poor social commentary. True, it’s upbeat and catchy but The Metros seem far too similar to many of their predecessors, including other 1965 Records associated bands The Libertines and The View. With their boozy behaviour already getting them banned from the less-than-luxurious Holiday Inn chain and kicked off a tour with that most extreme of bands The Coral, they could probably take some advice from Pete Doherty on Rock n’ Roll behaviour as well as how to write a memorable tune.
