The Futureheads

Artist: The Futureheads
Track: The Beginning Of The Twist
Rating: * * *

Being dropped by your record label is never a good sign and often means the writing is on the proverbial wall. However, The Futureheads have made it through hard times, creating their own record label and doing the current in-thing by handing out this track for free at gigs. The track itself feels like a storming comeback single with a bigger and louder sound that draws more comparisons to The Clash than any nu-rave band. It’s an enjoyable song with a memorable and catchy chorus, yet there’s no doubt that The Futureheads have lost a bit of the charm that came with singles such as ‘Skip to the End’ and their excellent version of ‘Hounds of Love’. The Futureheads seem to have got over their blip, but if there is one thing harder than the difficult second album it’s the third. At least there’s no chance of being dropped from your own label.

  1. Great review. I like the song but am doubtful the new album will match or better ‘News and Tributes.’ One can only hope!
