If you’d told me that the next big thing from DFA Records planned to utilize the “unique” vocals of Antony Hegarty, I would have imagined that it would have a produced a similar reaction to Robert Oppenheimer sharing his summer vacation plans with Ghandi.
Delightfully, the result here is just as explosive (!): six minutes and twenty-one seconds of full on, 1970s style disco revival that can’t be pre-modified by the word ‘punk’ and most certainly doesn’t know the meaning of irony. Bongos this fruity haven’t been heard since the Sugarhill Gang’s Apache. If you don’t have a smile on your face by the time the horns kick in then Mark Ronson has forever crippled your appreciation of all things that go parp. Add in Antony’s warble and you have the most fateful special ingredient since Mojo Jojo added Chemical X to Professor Utonium’s secret formula and created the Powerpuff Girls.
A modern day Chic. Can you imagine anything more exciting?
