You will probably recognise Envy & Other Sins from their success as winners of the T4 mobileAct Unsigned. Their first single to be released, ‘Highness’, was featured in the final of the competition and clearly played a role in bringing the band success.
The single itself is a punchy example of indie pop at it’s finest. Envy & Other Sins have been compared to The Feeling, which seems slightly unfair as there is a lot more intelligence in their music. Even though their first single shares a similar theme with the music of The Feeling (girls, obviously), it’s far more upbeat without that most detestable element of desperate whining in the lyrics.
The opening guitar riff of ‘Highness’ definitely bears a resemblance to the Fratellis’ famously danceable songs; couple this with the easily memorable lyrics and this single is set to become a favourite across the dance floors of Britain.
