In the second of two Varsity football matches being played today, the York fourth team ran out a comfortable 4 – 0 victory. The York team were never really troubled, and the margin of victory could have been much greater. Much of the match was a slow tempo affair, perhaps due to the unseasonably warm weather, with both sides failing to reach the levels of rivalry being displayed elsewhere on 22 acres. In the first half York were able to put two goals on the board as their dominance showed, with Dan Cox and Alex Saunders capitalising well on some excellent play coming from midfield.
In the second half York St John’s showed more fight, however after the third goal, scored by Dan Cox adding to his one from the first half, the game descended into a bitty affair. As the game drew on St John’s were limited to few decent chances, and thus were unable to put on the board for themselves. York however extended their lead to four goals through the industrious Adam Lister and put the game beyond reasonable doubt.
