Future of Fletcher-Hackwood to be decided

The future of Grace Fletcher-Hackwood as YUSU’s Academic and Welfare Officer will be decided at 13:00 today when results from this week’s UGM are released.
If the motion is successful, Hackwood will be dismissed immediately. “If the motion passes, the action will come into force instantly at one o’clock,” said YUSU Societies and Communications Officer Sam Bayley.
According to Union Manager Jolene Jesseman, no-confidence motions against YUSU Officers occur most years, but none have ever been successful.
The motion was proposed in regard to an assault made by Fletcher-Hackwood on Second Year student Dan Taylor during a Club D event earlier this month.
Should Fletcher-Hackwood be removed from her position, the post is unlikely to be filled until the beginning of the next academic year when the individual elected in Week Nine of this term would take over. While it is constitutionally possible for the officer-elect to take over with immediate effect, in reality it is unlikely as they would need permission to take a leave of absence from the University.
