Trampolining All
Time: Saturday 10.00
Location: Dance Studio
Points: Lancaster 4 - York 0
After three hours of jumps, somersaults and twists Lancaster emerged victorious in the trampoline competition. The main criteria were neatness, keeping near to the centre cross and consistent control. The judges commented that the standard this year was high with few falls and, overall, strong technical accuracy.
The event, which took place in the dance studio, attracted a large crowd and there were complaints to the judges about the noise levels during performances. Certainly, immense concentration is needed to execute these complex routines. The elite category routine required a minimum of seven somersaults each with at least 270º of rotation.
The competition was split into novice, intermediate, advanced and elite, with a graded scoring system so that elite had the most potential to score highly. The final score is worked out by adding the 3 highest scores together, regardless of sex or category. Thus, Lancaster, with two advanced 2 candidates compared to York’s 1, started with an advantage. The advanced and elite categories were narrowly won by a Lancastrian competitor, whilst Hannah Cooper of York topped the intermediate section. The final score constituted a narrow victory for the red roses: Lancaster 151.3 and York 149.8.
A member of the York team commented ‘It’s disappointing because the final score was so close. However, there were many really impressive individual performances and the whole team should be proud of the effort they’ve put in’.
