Live Commentary

Sunday 4.38pm

We’ve lost the football 1-0, but the Men’s and Women’s Basketball is a stunning victory for York, gaining us 8 further points to bring the overall score to 141-103. News on the Hockey will be with us soon. Keep checking Nouse’s online coverage, though I’ve heard the closing ceremony is about to start.

Sunday 4.34pm

News just in: Lancaster’s Vice-Chancellor has described Nouse’s online coverage of Roses as “the best I’ve ever seen”. Proud in defeat, AND a Nouse fan. Could we do a swap with Brian Cantor?

Sunday 4.05pm

Archery results are through: York have won 9 points out of a possible 10, leaving Lancaster languishing even further down the scoreboard. Ha!
In the Football, Lancaster are still 1-0 up with 5 minutes left, but they are down to a team of 10 men after a rather rude young man adopted some profane language in front of the referee, and was promptly sent off.

Sunday 3.28pm

In the Archery the outlook is positive for York, with the scores being announced in the next 20 minutes, but according to my correspondent York has won all the points in the last 2 years and are expected to repeat this again in 2007. At half-time in the football the score remains at 1-0 to Lancaster, despite the continued attempts that York have made to keep possession of the ball. All in all, it is “pretty tight” says Toby Green.

Sunday 3.16pm

Euphoria is being felt all over campus, except perhaps in L/028 where Lancaster will later be crying into their sleeping bags, but I at least will try to keep a calm head in order to continue to bring you all the latest results. In the Football, Lancaster have scored the first goal of the game after 25 minutes after a few missed opportunities leading up to that moment, and York have won tthe Mixed Lacrosse in a decisive 8-3 victory.

Sunday 3.03pm

It is safe to say that York have WON the 2007 Roses competition. Congratulations to all the contestants, you deserve it after all the training and preparation that went into Roses this year. Thanks must also go to the organisers, whose co-ordination and dedication has been indispensable in keeping everything running smoothly. We really are the best.

Sunday 2.53pm

It’s now Jenny O’Mahony bringing you news through the afternoon on all the latest Roses action, as Toby and Dan have gone to bring you the latest from the Football.

Sunday 2.05pm

Match reports and results are starting to hot up. There’s only 15 minutes left in the Rugby, and it looks like Lancaster are going to get the 4 points as they are 24-12 up.

The football Men’s 2nds is still 0-0, and Tom Moore has just missed an open goal. It would certainly be tragic if that was the miss that lost York the Roses, but we remain in a commanding lead and for the extra point to really matter it would have to be a terrifically tight contest.

York are up in the Mixed Lacrosse 4-2 however, and 4 points have been gained for York after winning in both the Men’s and Women’s Water Polo. Lancaster however have won both the Women’s Indoor Football matches.

Finally, in the Mixed 3rds Hockey York have 3-0 and have gained the point. 3 first half goals, including one from captain Ian Sheridan, secured the points.

Just 25 minutes until the big game of the day though, with the York Men’s 1sts football.

Sunday 1.10pm

The first big game of the day is underway, and it’s pretty even. Two tries for York Men’s 1sts, one of which were converted, meant York had a 12-0 lead after 20 minutes. However Lancaster have just scored two tries and a conversion to make it 12-12.

In the Football Men’s 2nds, there’s still no score but York have all of the possession.

Finally, the rowing has finished in a tie. Amazingly all the York men lost, whilst all the York women won. The lead’s down to 24…

Sunday 12.25pm

Bad news in the Hockey, as the Men’s 3rds losing 4-1 to Lancaster. Sam Butterfield scored York’s only goal.

Sunday 11.40am

The rowing remains a tight competition, with York winning by the Women’s Freshers 4’s by 2 lengths before the Men’s equivalent got beaten by the away side by six lengths.

Still no news from Jo, our reporter at the Archery. Hopefully she hasn’t been felled by a stray arrow…

Sunday 10.50am

More updates from the rowing. In the Senior Men’s 4s, Lancaster just pipped York by a metre. York however got their own back in the Senior Women’s 4s, winning by two lengths. And the Novice’s race that collided has now been cancelled and will not be rerun.

Sunday 10.10am

Good morning, it’s Toby Green here whilst Dan is down by the river. Hopefully he won’t get burnt again, he was looking slightly red on top last night.

He’s managed to send in our first report though, and in the first race Lancaster Novices have beaten York Novices by a good distance. However in the next race, the boats managed to collide after 200m and both ended up on the embankment. We’re waiting for them to restart.

Definitely going to feel like a bit of a slower pace today than yesterday, or at least in the morning. Archery has just begun, but there’s only indoor football and hockey until ‘Super Sunday’ (classy nickname, witty yet original) gets going at 12.30 with the Rugby Men’s 1sts. Other highlights include the Men’s 1sts Football at 2.30pm, and the Mixed Hockey at 3pm. Chances are that by then the result will be wrapped up, and we’re guessing the presentation will take place after the Hockey which is the last game. Should be a good day, and again we’ll be keeping you up to date with what’s happening as it happens.

Sunday 8:45am

So the day begins with York a meagre 25 points away from reclaiming the Carter-James trophy. Today they will face tought contests in the football Men’s 1sts and 2nds, rugby union Men’s 1sts and Mixed hockey. However, the rowing, basketball and archery are expected to see them through to the finish line.

Stay tuned for rowing updates, I’m off to ride the River Ouse right now.

Sorry to correct you, but not ALL the men’s rowing was lost. York won the Novice Men’s 8 (last race of the day), and the Novice 4 only lost by a few feet, not 6 lengths!

Shame to see the lack of any coverage at all of the Men’s Volleyball, having worked hard all year and gained fantastic results in BUSA, then having so comprehensively beaten Lancaster at Roses. It doesn’t help we got left out of the Roses booklet though.

However, the overall coverage of the Roses was fantastic, was good reading about how everyone else did, especially as we won by 40 points.

    Hi Rich,

I agree that it’s a shame we didn’t get to mention the volleyball and it will be something covered in future editions. I’m afraid in the midst of covering almost 100 fixtures over 3 days some things just slipped through the net, apologies.

I understand that, your coverage of the event was fantastic, when I wasn’t on campus watching the events I had this site up to keep up to date.

    Thanks,

    Rich.
