York 2 - Lancaster 7

A spirited York side was unable to contain a superlative performance from Lancaster.

Lancaster took an early lead in th eighth minute when Lancaster’s Cook, following a corner kick, took advantage of a badly cleared ball and tapped it in from close range. York soon responded through Lotty who succeeded in connecting with a cross from the left and scored with a powerful header. York then gained the upper hand as they went ahead with a low-footed strike from York’s Craven.

Although at a slower pace compared to the game of their male counterparts, every player on the pitch showed grit and determination, never shy of putting in tackles.

In the second half, Lancaster’s equaliser through McCartan was the perfect setting for the rout that was to follow: after Hislop’s brilliant strike put Lancaster in the lead, a truly magnificient performance from Lancaster striker Wynes saw them four goals in quick succession and humble the hard-fighting home team, unable to contain the fluidity of movement shown by Wynes.
