York 10 - Lancaster 4
The War of the Roses seemed to be re-enacted as York emphatically overcame Lancaster in this morning’s early kick off. The fiery encounter, played in the tent, got off to a cracking start, man of the match Tom Wilson firing two of his four goals inside the first minute.
Yet the competitive spirit York had shown all of Friday soon spilt over into anger as Graham Wiggins retaliated to a poor challenge from a Lancastrian player and was sent to the stands to watch the game with the very vocal crowd, who often made their feelings known. As both teams were down to four men, the game quickly opened up and it was York who took decisive control, with our illustrious AU President, Tom Moore, scoring a wonderful hat-trick.
With the game finishing 10-4, the seven from Moore and Wilson accompanied by Richard Remington’s brace and one from Ed Murrils, it was the perfect start to what will hopefully be another White day in Roses 2007.
