York 2 - Lancaster 3

York’s 1sts Indoor football team surrendered a two goal lead as the pressure got to them in this hard-fought encounter. Much like the 2nds game, York were pumped from the start, battling hard and never giving an inch. Their efforts were soon rewarded when Nick Hassey slickly scored the first goal of the game with a left foot strike.

York seemed to be having it all their own way as Joe Brennan added a second after nine minutes, and Lancaster’s frustration at their lack of chances soon became apparent. Tempers flared both on the pitch and off it, especially when a Lancastrian player spat into the crowd. Yet York’s disgust at the act seemed to galvanise Lancaster, who now seemed determine to not allow the White Rose a clean sweep in the indoor football.

Just before half time the comeback began with a great strike from the Lancastrian striker, and their skill and tactical nouse soon came to be too much for York to handle as Lancaster scored two more to take a 3-2 lead. Although Hassey was unfortunate to have a goal disallowed just minutes before the end, Lancaster clung on and their delight was obvious, whilst York’s focus must now turn to the outdoor football later this afternoon and tomorrow.
