The Men’s Rugby 7’s games saw Lancaster walk away with three points and York only one after a disappointing day for the white rose.

Roses: Lancaster victory in Rugby Union 7s Mens 1sts

Both the 2nd and 1st teams were caught out by an extremely fast Lancaster back line, often making breaks or moving the ball out wide. The second’s game was highlighted by some big hits by Nick Brown, while for the 1sts Thomas Benbow and James Wilson were at the heart of the action, with some intelligent passes and runs.

However ultimately the red rose won both games, 24-0 for the seconds and 38-10 for the firsts.

York’s solitary victory was collected by the 3rd squad, who dominated the game after a jittery start. They pinned the bleached-hair rivals in their own half of the pitch for most of the match, with forward Chris Carr scoring two unconverted tries to win 10-5.

Club Captain Chris Fox said: “I’m very pleased with the way the third team outfought their rivals completely. In the other two games were a bit starved for possession, and with a team that quick in front, not having possession becomes dangerous. But tomorrow is a whole different game, and the whole team is confident.”
