Haha, also why on EARTH have you spent a long article giving a positive view of escorts, then at the bottom there's the lovely line "Having money problems? Don’t sell your body." How odd.

I agree with Louis - it ain't these sex workers who need representation. They are paid well and have certain protections from the agencies who employ them.

@ Jacqueline,

In my experience, different people prefer different terms, so it's always best to ask. I assume the reporter for this article did so, although I agree that when talking about the 'prostitutes' who weren't interviewed for this article, the term 'sex worker' is a safer bet.

I am confused as to the purpose of this article. It presents one narrow viewpoint - that of the 'high-class escort' - but often makes reference to 'street prostitutes,' who are represented throughout as drug addicts and of a low class. I don't care if these women you interviewed thought working the streets might be terribly dangerous. You should have interviewed people in that position, or done some research, and presented a much less biased article.

I agree with Richard - it would have been interesting to hear from male escorts too.

Also, my understanding is that a dominatrix has a different job description from an escort or sex worker. As the woman says herself, she doesn't get paid for sex, but for BDSM work. That's a whole other culture and deserved consideration separately.

I actually think that this article has been written by someone in the trafficking network. by using the stories of women who volunteer to become prostitutes, We as pubic feel relieved about this disturbingly dark world because now we all think "well its not as bad as we thought"
the truth is, no matter how many women go in because they love sex and whatnot, it is sadistic, disturbing underground world that needs to be investigated and cared for.

We must keep in mind that the internet is filled with paid criminals who are posting bullshit news articles to keep the concerned citizens sleep peacefully at night.

Remember this, This , what you are reading right now is the truth.
and the rest of 80% articles, comments are idiotic , stupid, fabricated, brainwashing..etc.

it's your job to find those few articles and truth on the internet...and its very very rare sadly enough.

"Get your facts rights, this trade has been created and is maintained by repressed women who are not open minded enough to enjoy a good sex life."

Those darn repressed women! They made me steal the cookies from the cookie jar **cough**

It would of course be absurd to think that those clients in relationships could communicate with their so called "repressed women" and share their frustrations and concerns regarding their unwillingness to be more sexually expressive in their relationships, or that failing, end the relationship. This opinion--in my opinion--is not only a blatant attempt to avoid and deflect responsibility and choice, but also somewhat misogynistic. The far easier option is to look elsewhere--without the need for communication or commitment--so that rather than dealing with such problems one simply skirts around them. Denise may be doing these gents a "nice service", but I very much doubt that their partners would share her sentiments.

The one thing this article does make clear is that these "well resourced educated women" do not need representation to the same extent as street escorts who are not in the position to make such "positive informed choice[s]". This article seems a tad too polemical: prostitutes on one side, escorts on the other. It is self-reflexive or aware, but to a degree of depth and detail that cannot do credit to those voices it does not represent. In short, perhaps it makes sense that media attention is focused on the disenfranchised and disempowered--those that need our help--rather than the empowered sex workers. (So long as that media attention does not marginalise.) The human trafficking and sex trade is big business in the UK, and one only needs to ask Amnesty International or Eaves (for example) to see how the majority of women (and men) put to work in this manner are treated.

Great, some, perhaps even a large percentage of entrepreneurial women have found a way to solve their financial problems through the sex industry, but please don't distance and demonise prostitutes in the process. I would however have to agree with the scepticism with which the interviewed escorts responded to the hypothetical legalisation of their trade. If legalisation means greater protection for those women who are vulnerable in the sex industry, then great; if it leads to a situation that has become increasingly apparent in Amsterdam, where crime bosses or syndicates are left to their own devices, and such exploitation and abuse continues under the guise of legalisation, then not so great. This debate should not regress into a liberal banner-waving agenda, but recognising the need to better understand the sex industry and protect those that need protecting ("need" here being a highly contentious issue) xxxxx

You will be surprised to hear how many women have been abused in their lifetime. This is not a reason to become an escort.

Why do people find it difficult to understand there are open minded women in this world with a free spirit and an individual mind and then there are women in this world who are very reserved, conform to the norm of society and are very repressed in their way of individual thinking. Most women who become escorts do so through their own choice. They are not mentally ill and do not need healing.

The main demand for escorts is generated by men in relationships with repressed women. If you interview any escort, 80-90% of clients are from relationships where the girlfriend/partner will not perform oral sex or sex in any position other than missionary. Get your facts rights, this trade has been created and is maintained by repressed women who are not open minded enough to enjoy a good sex life.

It's not pimps, it's not drugs, it's wives and girlfriends of punters which create the demand and fuel for this industry.

It is a given most likely these middle class prostitutes were sexually abused as a child, that is the root cause of one being familiar or "comfortable" with detaching and having sex for money. It is not healthy or positive and later on in life most likely these women will want to heal.

Leeds escort agency, it's blatantly an automated bot... Either that or some students are advertising student-edu.com

Interesting to find an article rise to the top from before I was at uni and it's a decent article. The girls do seem to bias themselves one way though. "Actually, I did have a good upbringing, and even though I do have sex for money it doesn’t make me a bad or an immoral person." It's subjective and should read "I don't think it makes me a bad or immoral person." We aren't in a position to pass moral absolutes.

I do feel it's a shame that prostitution exists at all though, even if there are people out there who do so from a mentally secure environment.
