The student campaigners

I don’t like student politics. Not the politics of students you understand, I delight in the lefty-liberal consensus. No, it’s politics about students that offends me. This is not Paris ’68, the vice-chancellor is not ‘The Man’. Get. Some. Perspective. It’ll come as no surprise then that the various ‘Free Vanbrugh’ slogans that have been sprayed up around campus for the last year or so have significant impact on my bile levels. Mandela, Vanbrugh, Tibet. Which of these things is not like the other? (If it was supposed to be ironic, that’s even worse.)

Anyway that’s all over now, for Vanbrugh is to be rebuilt in a more suitable location. One only hopes the architects can capture that delightfully claustrophobic air that pervades the current building. And congratulations to those protesters. Chaps - a cause well fought and well won. Oh, but look! Your:Shop’s running out of ice-cream! Quick! Scandal! Outrage! Fascism! etc.
