Toffs and URY merge for indie club night to present from dusk til dawn

FOR THE FIRST time ever a York nightclub will team up with the University radio station for a non-stop night out in York.

URY 1350AM will broadcast their Kinki Indie show every Thursday 8-10pm, and then the presenters will dash over to Toffs and continue the show from 10pm until closing.

The show, said to be the first of its kind, will be presented by the award winning Sarah Forster, along with Matt Bone. The duo will broadcast alternative, indie and progressive rock music, and then spend the rest of the evening DJing in the side room at Toffs.

And for those who don’t fancy alternative music, the main room will be hosted by DJ Rob playing party, dance and student classics throughout the night.

To kick off the event which will start in week one, ten pairs of tickets will be given away to URY listeners for free entry on the door. You can even grab a free drink by signing up to the kinki indie website at http://www.kinkiindie.com.

Sarah Forster, Assistant Programme Controller for URY, said: “This is a great opportunity for students to get a cheap night out when it’s not smack full of everyone else in York.

She continued: “It also proves to the students that ((URY)) isn’t some tinpot little radio station, but affiliates with one of the most popular nightclubs in the city.”

To listen in to University Radio York all you need is an AM radio tuned to 1350AM, or you can tune in online at http://ury.york.ac.uk.

I would like to correct the first sentence of this article by pointing out that “The KinkiIndie Show” previously ran on URY from at least 2002 to 2004; and in exactly the same slot. The show discontinued in the summer of that year when the then presenters, Rachel Dunkley and Lily Smith, left York.

Rach & Lily would do exactly the same as the current presenters: dash from URY’s studios to Toffs and do the first couple of hours (as did DJ Gav, who stills DJs at Toffs, along with working for the University’s Computing Service).
