If it wasn’t for “sweatshop labour” most people in the developing world would have no way of earning anything at all.

You want to go down the the third world sometime (like I have) and ask ‘em what they think about you campaigning to take their job away (like I have) just soes you can feel less guilty.

You might then realise how £5 a day isn’t quite as appalling a wage as you think when you take into account the local situation. Without it, the situation would be much worse - go and read some books before opening your silly mouth and trying to replicate stuff you saw on telly about campaigns your parents’ generation did in the 60s.

Frankly, there are more clearly student-related issues to campaign on like the mess of the centralisation of the student finance system which has left many students under real stress - I know of one case where someone had to subit thei UCAS form 6 times; other cases where admin errors meant that money paid out was reclaimed two thirds into the year.

Or how about the one about the university that schedules lectures on bank holidays, but closed its own nursery, whilst still requirin parent students to attend lectures and assessments.

You know what I mean?
The student union is not for middle class brats to buff up their CVs with trendy-sounding ill-informed pseudo-humanitarian campaigns; it’s for serving the interests of students at this unversity, to facilitate support for their learning experience.

the campaigns aren’t arrogant, it’s the people who try to claim the moral high-ground, and try to claim they represent students as a whole, when they only represent a tiny clique; they’re ill-informed, irrelevent to what directly affects students and selfish, because this only about buffing up CVs and assuaging self-loathing and guilt over having a privileged upbringing.
