Rinky,

You made the following mistakes in this article:
“subit thei”
“requirin”
“unversity"
“irrelevent"

Should I (by your logic) dismiss you as a careless idiot, or, should I give you the benefit of doubt and guess that you just haven’t discovered how to use the spell check on your computer?

...actually, the campaigns ARE arrogant, because you're patronising the sweatshop workers by assuming that you have a mandate to represent their interests; when in reality you are ignorant of their situation and motivations.

[it's a man's perogative to change his mind!]

What the hell has fruit of the loom got to do with student life.

If it wasn't for "sweatshop labour" most people in the developing world would have no way of earning anything at all.

You want to go down the the third world sometime (like I have) and ask 'em what they think about you campaigning to take their job away (like I have) just soes you can feel less guilty.

You might then realise how £5 a day isn't quite as appalling a wage as you think when you take into account the local situation. Without it, the situation would be much worse - go and read some books before opening your silly mouth and trying to replicate stuff you saw on telly about campaigns your parents' generation did in the 60s.

Frankly, there are more clearly student-related issues to campaign on like the mess of the centralisation of the student finance system which has left many students under real stress - I know of one case where someone had to subit thei UCAS form 6 times; other cases where admin errors meant that money paid out was reclaimed two thirds into the year.

Or how about the one about the university that schedules lectures on bank holidays, but closed its own nursery, whilst still requirin parent students to attend lectures and assessments.

You know what I mean?
The student union is not for middle class brats to buff up their CVs with trendy-sounding ill-informed pseudo-humanitarian campaigns; it's for serving the interests of students at this unversity, to facilitate support for their learning experience.

idiot.

"It infuriates me that whenever there is an issue important to students, the SU can’t wait to stand in the way and make things difficult!"

Important to which students? and how many? and how important?
Shut up! don't start claiming to speak for me, have a survey before you start spouting.

"Robbie goes on to suggest that these student ‘crusades’ are arrogant because they’re unlikely to make a difference."

the campaigns aren't arrogant, it's the people who try to claim the moral high-ground, and try to claim they represent students as a whole, when they only represent a tiny clique; they're ill-informed, irrelevent to what directly affects students and selfish, because this only about buffing up CVs and assuaging self-loathing and guilt over having a privileged upbringing.

" I admit, it’s difficult to actually change anything - especially when you’re up against the University like we are with Free Vanbrugh. However, that is exactly why we elect fellow students into the SU - to represent us! "

Yes US! (ALL OF US) not YOU! (And your little clique) and not the football stitchers in Bangladesh.
